APM Employment is one of the largest private Employment Services Providers, held by parent company Serendipity (WA) Pty Ltd.

We met with @Louise_Pratt who claimed she didn't know about donations from ESPs to the Labor Party. This was in her own state.
When I told her I found it hard to believe she didn't know about these donations, Louise was offended that I would imply she was lying.

Yet here we are, with a post-career prominent Labor state minister parachuted onto the board of this company.

Lying or incompetent, then?
This disgusting corporate corruption gravy train is what keeps @Tony_Burke and the @AustralianLabor party squarely beholden to the providers, and why they will never do the right and humane thing and #AbolishMutualObligations

Over 2 days we've heard harrowing #DisabilityRC evidence from Mzia, a former DES participant with AimBig & employee in their BusyBeans program

We also heard from Matthew Ting, the AimBig manager who hired her for the job

Today's bullshit will be brought to you by DSS from 10am
State manager of AimBig Ms Romero has given statements to kick things off today.

We'll here from Rick Kane from Disability Employment Australia, and later from the Department of Social Services. It's going to be a big day..
Romero is the CEO of Arriba Group, who oversees AimBig, Rehab Management (Mzia's employer).

Today at the #DisabilityRC AimBig & employment services peak body @DisabilityEmplt will appear to tell us some bullshit justification for the disgusting practices we heard from Mzia yesterday (🧵below)

You can follow from 10am on the @DRC_AU website: disability.royalcommission.gov.au
We're also going to see a lot of hand wringing about how hard it is for workers. That's true.

But to pretend these orgs aren't directly responsible for it is a joke. They're also responsible for hiring unqualified ppl & allowing staff to inflict horrible abuse on disabled folks.
"75% of people in the BusyBeans program had a positive experience" – this is from EIGHT surveys out of 100s of participants.

Also, how many people had a positive experience BECAUSE of the work Mzia did to help them in a failing program? #DisabilityRC #AbolishMutualObligations

Today's witness will be Mzia* (pseudonym)

She will speak about her experiences as a trainer at AimBig, but also as a former DES participant. #DisabilityRC #AbolishMutualObligations
"In 2020 to 2021 only 13.4% of the ~410,000 people in DES had sustained employment for 6 months." – Ronald Sackville, Chair

#DisabilityRC #AbolishMutualObligations
Low labour force participation has been stagnant for 20 years.

Governments have failed us again and again, and DES should never have been allowed to continue in its current form as long as it has. #DisabilityRC #AbolishMutualObligations

Hi folks, someone shared a story with us today that spells out perfectly the absolute WORK of being unemployed, even in a pandemic.

They've kindly agreed to let me share it. It shows how folks lose days and days managing dumb requirements just to TRY and stay safe.
Note: this is about a DES provider. That's the DISABILITY employment service.

Yesterday this (un)employment provider insisted that the person attend an IN PERSON appointment in a few days' time, despite spiralling COVID cases.

A familiar story, we know.
This person rightly wants to keep themselves safe and started to figure out how to avoid doing a face-to-face appointment.

Here's absurd/byzantine process they needed to do ... just so they could stay home IN A PANDEMIC 👇

Our welfare system kills people.

Politicians have designed a poverty machine that punishes us financially, physically + psychologically, whilst using public funds to line the pockets of private organisations.

It is not a mistake, it is a choice. #BTPM
Our social safety net is not safe for unemployed workers #NSFUW

We must make payments above the Henderson Poverty Line #HPL

We must #AbolishMutualObligations + get rid of unemployment cops #UCAB

We must break the poverty machine #BTPM
When JobSeeker payments were lifted to the Henderson Poverty Line during the pandemic unwaged, underemployed and insecure workers were able to eat regularly, look after their health, pay the bills on time and have a safe place to live. #HPL

There are 400,000 people on unemployment payments – that’s 1 in 4 people – who can’t work full time for health reasons, bc they have caring responsibilities, are experiencing domestic violence or are in similarly difficult circumstances. #80aDay
If you want to use the beautiful #80aDay graphics designed by @jezheywood you can download them all here, in both Facebook and Twitter sizes: 1drv.ms/f/s!Ao2X7nRblA…
The average length of time people are stuck on unemployment payments has increased from just over 2yrs in 2014 to 3.5 yrs in 2020.

The govt fails to provide a job for everyone who wants one but insists on forcing us to try and survive in deep poverty. #80aDay
