(1) Thread: Public figures and mental health.

I'm glad Naomi Osaka has withdrawn from this event and of course I hope she gets the help she needs.

Prior to this announcement a lot of people were angry with her, including me.
(2) IMO this unfortunate saga would not have happened if her manager (who she employs) had given her better advice & arranged for an excellent sports psychologist to work with her. Now, it may turn out that her manager did do this, we'll see. I can only work from what is public.
(3) As someone who has PTSD myself, I believe I understand the kind of issues at stake here. I welcome the increased focus on mental health issues throughout society we've all seen of late. I detest it when people fake it or publicly blame others who can't defend themselves.

#taxes #TaxSeason the That moment when your #Adulting reality hits in after your parents say we can’t claim you. You think of the number headache you have to have to file your taxes for the first time... but then...

ᏏᏲ @CantorArts, @Stanford alum/ former Cantor intern (2006?) here. I helped redo your Native gallery. I think my name is on the wall still. Anyway. This is a bad tweet and here’s why.
(There are lots of Native folks in your mentions saying this too but just my two cents)
Curtis has a complicated and painful legacy in Native communities. He set out to capture what he termed “the vanishing race,” believing that Native folks were going extinct and needed to be documented before their disappearance.
But he also had very strong beliefs about what constituted a “real” Native person, and would choose costumes, poses, and locations to capture his stereotype-laden aesthetic. He would mix regalia from tribes and physically manipulated negatives to erase signs of “modernity.”

The chairs we inherited after the in-laws got a new dining set are worn to the point where a slicey-pokey corner of wood juts out from the threadbare upholstery. This is how my attempt at adulting these chairs will go:
1. research local upholsterers and find one with good reviews
2. contact them with a description of the chairs
3. become outraged about reupholstering prices while grudgingly acknowledging that, yeah, I guess upholsterers have to make a living
4. search for, and watch, videos on YouTube about doing your own reupholstering
5. research how much getting the materials will cost and try to find a local source for the materials
6. discover the need for a specialized piece of equipment
7. try, fail to find the piece of equipment on eBay for cheap
