Flock Management Records: Maintain records of important flock details such as the date of arrival, breed, number of chicks, and mortality rates. Track weight gain, uniformity and growth rates to assess flock performance. ImageImage

Starting a Poultry Farm? Things to Know!

Poultry farming in Nigeria is one of the most profitable businesses in the country, especially when properly set up.

Layers (chickens raised for eggs) and broilers (chickens raised for meat) are the two major species of
chickens farmed in the industry. However, small scale poultry farmers can rear cockerels and noilers, which are bought cheaper at a tender age.

Poultry farming is a very lucrative business and offers loads of advantages. However, no matter the aspect of poultry farming that you
choose, you must make sound administrative and financial decisions to ensure profitability.

Generally, the amount of money needed to start a poultry business is dependent on the size of the farm, and the number of chicks one wishes to start with.

AGRIBUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES AND COLLABORATIONS.(A THREAD)

We can say opportunities in Agribusiness or Agribusiness opportunities. Though when I first saw the topic and analyzed it, I felt the collaborations is not really necessary because there is collaborations in business
already either by government, cooperative body or individual.

Agribusiness is simply agricultural entrepreneurship, farming and any commercial farm-related activity from primary production (crop and livestock production), processing, marketing,
logistics (distribution of raw and processed food).

The term agribusiness was first introduced by Davis and Goldberg in 1957.

1/ Soil TESTING: The WHY and HOW
@GNKLaboratories
#Windmill
THE introduction of high yielding varieties has resulted in increased demand for nutrients which cannot be achieved from the inherent soil fertility. Inputs such as fertilizer must be used to get optimum yields.
@GNKLaboratories 2/ The cost of such inputs is prohibitive while their rational use is imperative.

✍️There is need for soil testing and analysis to determine nutritional requirements for maximum productivity of a given crop.
@GNKLaboratories 3/ ✍️Many crop farmers neglect this important pre-farming activity which affects the total farm output.

✍️It is an essential tool in assessing soil fertility, suitable crops and fertilizer requirements.

Why do we always look in the wrong direction for survival ?

How much is a barrel of Oil now ?
How much is a tonne of Castor seed ?
Please read the publication below and weep for our leaders.
steemit.com/castorbean/@un…

#agribusiness #Agricnewoil
Based on what I read today,
Cost/ Benefit Analysis for 10 hectares of castor plant
Aside from Land
Clearing of land: (10,000 per acre) Heaping: depends on negotiations (150k)
Pesticides: #3,200 ×24 = #76,800
Seedlings: 13,500 seedlings × #80 = #1,080,000
Total: #1,306,000+
Return on Investment

10 hectare will produce 10 ton every 5 months, that is 20 tonnes yearly for 7 years.

A ton sells for #420,000

Therefore, #420,000 × 20 = #8.4m yearly

#8.4m × 7 = #58,800,000

Total for 7yrs: #58,800,000

Fundamentals of Agribusiness Ventures.

i) Agriprenuership

For any agribusiness enterprise to be established & run successfully, those starting it up & running it must have certain skills, behaviours & attitude.

•Passion
•Persistence
•Business intelligence
•Product focus
Lack of these attributes leads to business failure especially during the early stages of crafting it.

#AgribusinessTalk254

ii) Have a Comprehensive Agribusiness Plan/Model

Agriprenuers fail not because they are doomed to fail but because they are undertaking so many activities some of which may not be adding value to their business.
