We need to stand with our black friends, neighbours, colleagues, coworkers, classmates, and yes, even strangers.
But we also need to make a conscious decision to not make this about us. It's not about us. This about the countless black lives that have been cut short.

1) In GEORGIA v. TRAVIS MCMICHAEL & GREGORY MCMICHAEL, defendants are charged with murder & assault of #AhmaudArbery committed on February 23, 2020.
With the help of the Glynn County DA's office & white-owned media outlets, defendants have already aserted self-defense claims.

The death of #AhmaudAubrey meets the @NAACP definition of a #lynching. This is confirmed from the DA letter here. All four criteria are met.
(1) Someone was killed. (2) The killing was illegal (not a state execution after conviction of a crime) (3) Three or more people involved and (4) Assailants claimed to be upholding justice and/or tradition. This letter confirms all those facts.
What makes this even more heinous is that like most lynchings, law enforcement sees no problem with it. Black Lynching has always had police support. No surprise that it’s 2020 and we are still lynching black men in broad daylight without fear of arrest after doing so.

A small bit of good news. But let's not forget how that whole grand jury thing went in the Michael Brown case or with Tamir Rice. A prosecutor leads the grand jury to where they want them to go, so the prosecutor has to want to prosecute for it to generally happen.

In the Brown and Rice cases we were dealing with police officers of course, but as with Trayvon, in Georgia these are white (vs white Hispanic) men with proximity to police who shot a black man in a guns-galore state. That doesn't make me hopeful, frankly. 11alive.com/article/news/c…
Ahmaud Arbery, a Black man, was gunned down in Feb. by white men in GA, after neighbors said they thought he was a burglar. His family says he was jogging. Now, there's video of what the men claimed was a "citizen's arrest" that some say looks like murder.
