@ethereum First on the call, after pushing it back a few times, we had Afri (@q9f on gh/ethmag) give us an update on the latest discussions around testnet sustainability.
@ethereum @Q9F At a high level, it's hard to offer guarantees around long-term testnet maintenance. State grows, supply gets hard to obtain, etc. Afri therefore has a proposal for more explicit commitments around testnet lifeschedules: ethereum-magicians.org/t/proposal-pre…

We wrapped up another @Etherum #AllCoreDevs earlier, covering all things Merge as well as mev-boost and censorship resistance at the protocol level. This was a much less "procedural" call than usual, and touched on a lot of the "softer" governance questions around Ethereum.
@Etherum If you have the time (we even ended early!) I strongly recommend watching the whole recording. The Merge stuff was just ~20 mins, and then it was much more of a free flowing discussion.
@Etherum It's very hard to summarise and keep the nuance, and to not put words in people's mouth, I'll err on the side of brevity.

@ethereum First on the call, we discussed the Ropsten Merge, which happened earlier this week. @dannyryan gave an update, based in part on @parithosh_j's analysis from earlier this week:
@ethereum @dannyryan @parithosh_j Pre-merge, some CL clients had issues tracking deposits to the beacon chain. This was because they made specific assumptions around block times which did not hold under Ropsten's chaotic block times due to its variable hash rate as a testnet.
Another merge-heavy @ethereum #allcoredevs today 😁 TTD, beacon chains, Ropsten, difficulty bomb, we covered it all!

@ethereum TL;DR of the issue is that the Ropsten TTD was hit before the Beacon Chain for the testnet was live and Bellatrix, the CL fork which activates merge functionality, had gone live.

@ethereum First on the call, @parithosh_j gave a recap of the two shadow forks we did last week: one on Goerli and one on Mainnet. The Goerli one happened on Tuesday and some client teams had issues, that said, most were fixed by Saturday's mainnet shadow fork 💪🏻

@ethereum @christine_dkim As for the call itself, the first thing we covered was the set of recent shadow forks of Goerli. TL;DR: shadow forks allow us to run The Merge on a minority of nodes on the network, but still receive transactions going to the main chain.

@ethereum First on the call, we discussed the Goerli issue from overnight: a number of validators were down and the alterting software didn't catch it. On the call, the root cause of the issue hand't been found yet, but several teams were investigating.

@ethereum @mkalinin2 In short, the PR makes it optional for EL clients to actually execute a payload when receiving an executePayload call (and hence renames that call to newPayload for clarity).
