BREAKING: @KYSecState delivered recommendations for running Nov election in Kentucky. It’s VERY good news. Let’s walk through the provisions. But here’s the bottom line: anyone who believes they need to vote by mail cause of #COVID may do so. 1/
KY will essentially run election in 3 stages. First is vote-by-mail. Online portal to request a mail-in ballot will open on Aug. 21. Voters will have until Oct. 9 to request a ballot. Though an “excuse” is needed, any voter can say they want to vote by mail cause of #COVID. 2/
Both sides should claim victory: technically an excuse is required, but every voter has a valid excuse if they believe that voting in person will subject them to an unreasonable risk of harm from the coronavirus. 3/

I don’t know much, but I know you shouldn’t have to literally run to the polls to vote.

(For the record: Yes I have like 6 puns brewing in my head about election “races” and running ... but NOT NOW - this is serious problem with our democracy)

I don’t know if it’s the sunny weather, the food trucks, or the roller coasters in the background, but I’ve never been at a polling place that has such a carnival-like vibe to it.

Lots of smiles. No complaints. (That’s I’ve heard, at least!)
LaJa Hurt brought her 13-year-old daughter and 2-year-old niece with her to vote.

Hurt says they’re related to @Booker4KY, but that she would have votes for him regardless of the connection:

Good morning! I’m at the KY Exposition Center, Jefferson County’s only in-person polling site today. So far a steady flow of people and no lines. Image
Nore Ghibaudy with the county says he’s been here since 4 am, and a few hundred lined up to vote between 5:30 & 6 before they opened the doors. He says they were able to get them in and out pretty quickly. Image
I’ve spoken w/a few voters this AM. Shona Sondergeld got emotional talking abt the power of voting. Says, as a Black woman, she had to show up & vote for change. Showed off her “I Voted Today” wristband, “bragging rights.” Adds that it was easy to resolve absentee ballot issue. Image

KENTUCKY PRIMARY DAY THREAD: Follow along, friends, as we document today’s in-person voting. And if you’re in line to vote, send me a pic and I’ll add it.

1. First up, the pre-opening line in Lex:
2. An hour in and they are still handling the initial rush from people who joined the line before polls opened. The real test is the wait in an hour or so when the backlog is cleared.

Good morning, and welcome to Election Day in Kentucky.

I’m at the KY Expo Center, aka Jefferson County’s sole in-person polling site amid this pandemic.

Follow along with the @courierjournal throughout the day for updates. #AllEyesOnKentucky #KYPrimary
If you need a recap of everything that has led up to this day, check out this thread from Ben Tobin, who is not related to me, Not Ben Tobin.
Here’s a look at the stream of voters coming in this morning. Most have masks on and can check in at one of seven spaced-out tables.

So regarding the Jefferson County and #AllEyesOnKentucky trending here's what you're not being told:

KY Dem governor Beshear issues panicky orders to kung flu-proof the primaries after delaying them a month.

A GOP state rep sued to reopen polling places

motherjones.com/politics/2020/…
It's hurting both the GOP and Dem primaries, you see. EVERYONE is getting equally fucked by this idiot Beshear.

Beshear, who won by virtue of the Democrats driving out hundreds of thousands of voters in Louiville last year who ONLY voted in the governor race; GOP swept the rest.
I TOLD YOU motherfuckers Beshear was a fucking idiot, that he was corrupt, but did anyone listen to the Fudge? NOOOOOOO.
