But I want to be clear: the virus hasn’t gone away, and I’m not afraid to protect the people of Illinois by moving a region back to an earlier phase if we see a surge.

We’ve seen what’s happened in other states that have allowed politics or short-term thinking to drive decision-making. Many states are now seeing surges in cases and hospitalizations, and they’re being forced to move backward and stay at home – that’s not the story in Illinois.
It's official: Each of our four Restore Illinois health regions has hit our @IDPH health benchmarks for advancing into the next phase. Because of your commitment to being #AllInIllinois, Phase 3 will begin tomorrow, May 29.

This data-driven plan follows the best epidemiological recommendations, but it’s also inspired by people across our state who carry real passion to make sure that their communities can begin thriving again even in the face of this pandemic.
I haven’t commented on this yet bc I have had a hard time finding the words to express what I am feeling. The amount of hate speech, racism, and intolerance I have observed in there recent protests to reopen the country break my heart and make my soul hurt.
#covid19 doesn’t care about political affiliation or personal views. It doesn’t care if you believe in open carry laws or what god you follow, or if you believe in god. These protests are not only dangerous bc they are large social gatherings that spread this deadly virus...
They r also dangerous bc these open displays of racism and hate serve no purpose other than to further polarize an already divided country. Those on the front line put their lives at risk to save the lives of the friends and families of everyone, including those protesting.

MYTH: #SocialDistancing is the govts way of overreaching and taking away civil liberties
FACT: Govts didn't enforce #ShelterInPlace bc they want to take away rights. There is no political gain for shutting down a state. The gain is saving lives by slowing spread of the virus.

I want to review our latest updates on hospitalization rates and ventilator data as well as what these numbers might mean in the larger context of our curve.
Illinois' doubling rates have increased substantially — that's a very good thing.
For positive cases, it went from just about two days on March 22 to 3.6 days on April 1 to 8.2 days on April 12.
For fatalities, it was 2.5 days at the beginning of April & it's now at 5.5 days.

The fact that our doubling rate continues to increase in every metric is a clear demonstration that there is a deceleration of virus transmission.

As Dr. Ezike and I told you yesterday, our rate of rise is looking less and less exponential.

There is even some evidence we may be moving toward a flatter curve, but we need to keep watching the daily data.

Keep in mind, our case numbers and the death toll are still growing, and thus our fight must continue – but they’re growing more slowly, and that’s a very good thing.
