A REJECTED ASPECT OF FEMINISM BY THE GLOBAL INTELLECTUAL COMMUNITY

WOMAN AT POINT ZERO: NAWAL EL SAADAWI’S RADICAL AFRICAN FEMINISM WAS AHEAD OF ITS TIME

- Catherine Addison, University of Zululand

The Egyptian author, physician and activist Nawal El Saadawi’s recent
death has brought her writing back into the public eye. This is an opportune return, because El Saadawi’s feminism was ahead of its time – in both the Arab and the African worlds. In a recent analysis, I focused on her 1975 novel Woman at Point Zero.
El Saadawi published over 50 books in her lifetime, many of them novels. Woman at Point Zero, the first of her novels to cause public controversy, tells the story of Firdaus, a woman born into poverty in

Please divest from this rhetoric that Kenyans have not been fighting and protesting Extra judicial killings in Kenya, THEY HAVE, you just haven’t been paying attention.

Muslims raised the alarm, in 2010/11 when Muslims were being killed and disappeared by the state and it was justified through the war against terror and CVE.

HRDs and organizers have been calling it out and seeking accountability since 2007 after PEV
History dating back to the Jomo, Moi regime shows that vocal critics of those regimes called out and protested actions of state sanctioned murders of civilians by law enforcement.

Police brutality and EJE in Kenya is not new. KENYANS have been protesting since “independence”

As a person of color in this country, everywhere I go I’m forced to consider if people around me wish me harm, or are okay with my being harmed.

So every time I find out people I know and love are okay with people who are okay with this, it’s a kick in the gut. /1
Complicity with complicity is complicity.

Last year I was profoundly hurt to hear a friend declare their intent to avoid conversing with their relatives about their continued support of an administration which is actively seeking to harm brown people.
It was 9am. I went outside, sat on the ground,
and cried.

I cried because if my friends—who know and love me, who consider me a friend, who say they want good for people of all backgrounds—won’t speak up for me:

Who will?

I REALLY need for MEN to think about this.

Turning my attention to all the outrageous violence that takes place in our land, the tears of the victims with no comforter, the iron grip of oppressors, no one to rescue the people (victims) from them. #AmINext
One have to congratulate the dead who are already gone instead of the living dead who requested to be rescued even while living free. Now they're shackled as they await their fate with calamity. #AmINext
God is in charge not you. Let that sink in. The day you begin to believe you're it...you will have to keep yourself & beat your own heart. #Epiphany

There is no doubt we may have to drag Governor @AkinwunmiAmbode into this matter. For the past few minutes we have been tracking the movement of innocent citizens held captive by the Ogudu Area H command in a slave trade fashion. #EndSARS #ReformPoliceNG @citizen_gavel
The victims were abducted at Mile12 bus stop and driven to Ogudu with a demand of a ransom of N40k per head. Those who could not pay were taken to OSHODI Task Force where newly promoted CSP Egbeyemi heads. I spoke to him and was grossly disappointed. #EndSARS #ReformPoliceNG
It was like a session with Pablo Escobar himself. He barked about me teaching him his job. Which I really can’t comprehend. Is it @PoliceNG’s Job now to kidnap innocent citizens and ask for ransom? He said this wasn’t his deal but Area H’s business. He’s just keeping prisoners!😳

Had a chat with @tybellotweets on Nigeria’s trajectory as done every time we get the chance to catch up. Coincidentally she too has been pondering how we are being systematically conditioned to be #COLD & She got up one day & travelled out of town to shoot some photos...
“OUR HEARTS get COLDER everytime we turn away from bloodshed around us. We have to WAKE UP and be human again” she said. setting the song to images made photographing survivors of terror in the North East... #COLD #AmINext
She too hopes to stir our hearts once again to compassion for the people we share our country with. We must come out from behind our walls to see... feel and most importantly do what is RIGHT. This song is not where the message ends... Its the beginning of a new conversation.

Thanks Distinguished, I have spoken to his Lawyer and have gathered the material facts of the issue. I will speak to the PC of FCT and see how it pans out from there before we begin putting pressure. The bias of an individual shouldn’t be justified in legal matters. #AmINext
I need the public to know for certain that we have a thorough checks and balance mechanism to ascertain claims before we swing into action. We can’t be biased. @PoliceNG know better than to abuse the rights of a lawyer especially given the ongoing advocacy. This begs the question
Is the alleged “Barrister Ephraim Emeka Ugwuonye” still a Lawyer? Is he still parading himself as one? If his rights are being infringed upon, this one can query but the fact of the case he is involved in will have to follow the course of Law. Thanks. 🤔 #FactCheck

Who you vote for is your personal decision. The choice to either be self genocidal or embrace freedom will always be yours. You already have an unpleasant memory and you know the elements that constantly remind you of this. The harbinger of chaos & blood. #AmINext
People who remind you to be more cautious of the people you invest your time in & ruin relationships for. People who remind you to see people for who they are and not for who you want or hope for them to be. We must have learnt to love how people treat us, not what they promise.
We MUST not get it wrong again in 2019 while counting our dead in just 3 years of the unconscionable, unrepentant and impertinent aberration, who are still denying culpability & responsibility in an opposition fashion, even while at the helm of control of state apparatus.

Our legal team @citizen_gavel recorded yet another success with the Hon. Chief Justice of Nigeria, Walter S.N. Onnoghen, GCON at the Supreme Court Of Nigeria. A practice direction to all heads of court for implementation of the relevant provision of the ACJA 2015 has been issued.
The full implementation of this will drastically reduce incidents of police brutality and other forms of human rights abuse. The directive stipulates a monthly inspection of Police stations & other places of detention within their jurisdiction by Chief Magistrates.
We shall ensure we inspect and monitor this and report before it becomes yet another paper policy with no impact. The safety of the citizenry is our top priority. We appreciate the Supreme Court and the Chief Justice of Nigeria for the audience. #EndSARS #ReformPoliceNG

This is no longer a country. Murderers have now shown they own Nigeria and nothing will happen. Is the President Aware or still playing dead to this madness? Is this the Change promised?! 🤔 ⁦@YakubDogara⁩ ⁦@bukolasaraki#SecureNigeria pulse.ng/news/local/miy…
Miyetti Allah like SARS will kill you and nothing will happen because they are above the law as empowered by the powers that be. I wonder how many people they asked who they support on Twitter before cutting their lives short. Let self genocidal defenders take note. #AmINext
Why are they condemning this like they don’t know who the murderers are even after they have claimed responsibility right on Nigerian Soil?! 🤔
