Low attendance at the Chambers today, as has been largely the norm since the rules change that moved Audience Participation to the end of the meeting in favor of appearance requests. A gaggle of students in the room though, thanks local government classes! #ANCgov
Bronson is here, on time, today. LaFrance on the phone. Allard hasn't shown up quite yet. Constant is chairing. #ANCgov

Just arrived at the Assembly Chambers for the meeting of 10/25! Thread to ensue. #ANCgov #ANCHgov
Mellow day at the Chambers so far, only 12 members of the public in attendance as of now. Trombley was outside giving an interview about the NavCenter, saying that due to the process there's no reason for the assembly not to continue funding the project. #ANCgov
LaFrance says we're going to give an extra couple of minutes before starting the meeting due to the weather and at least one member is running behind due to an accident on the highway. Must be either Perez-Verdia or Allard, Quinn-Davidson is on the phone, everyone else present.

Quinn-Davidson asks about the public safety meeting, saying that the recording was unavailable, asks if it will be going up? Cross says he believes it is up, but will look into it. Demboski says the Muni attorney can elaborate #ANCgov

Tonight's #anchgov Assembly meeting starts Tuesday, Sep 27 at 5pm, chambers at Loussac Library.
The shelter plan was already voted on Monday at a special meeting, lots of other regular business on the agenda.
Meeting gaveled in. All members present, Quinn Davidson on the way.
Pledge, land acknowledgement.

As usual, a little cluster of people waiting to testify during audience participation. A few people just can't wait to talk, every time.
Mayor's report:
Budget out Friday. Prioritizing "public safety and keeping services intact."
Bronson awkwardly talks about upcoming Broadway shows & Library Yoda card.
It's hard to sound friendly when you seem to always pick fights.
At least he hasn't vetoed yet. #anchgov

Violence is used to control - it takes away power by force, assumes others are less than.
This piece focuses on 1:1 relationships & punishing violence. Let's also reflect on how larger context, rhetoric & what we treat as acceptable enables violent action:
adn.com/opinions/edito…
Violence often starts with the words we use, dehumanizing & othering language.
We see it when people describe people experiencing homelessness: "Can't / won't help themselves." "Don't belong here." "Not our problem, send them (back) to..."
Describing human beings as a nuisance.
Then the language conflates people's existence with crime, property damage. Move them out of "nice" areas, "they don't belong." The "only" way to make the city safer is more law enforcement on the streets, make them behave a certain way.
Or just make them not visible anymore.

LaFrance gavels in the meeting, calling us to order. Allard is going to be late, Sulte is on the phone, as is Perez-Verdia. Everyone else is present in the Chambers. #ANCgov
No yelling during the pledge. Cross reads the land acknowledgement. Onto approving the minutes of previous meetings, which Constant makes a motion for. Petersen seconds. No opposition, minutes are approved. #ANCgov

Alright, made it into the Chambers for the August 9 Assembly meeting. On the heels of the embarrassing Gerace debacle and the ongoing humanitarian crisis at Centennial, this should be interesting. "Looking forward" to the Mayor's report. #ANCgov #ANCHgov
Sparsely populated, so far. The Save Anchorage crew must be running a minute behind. Also, it's really cold in here.
Sulte brought a large bucket of popcorn. #ANCgov Image

Alright we are in the Chambers for the Anchorage Assembly meeting of 7/26! Not as many faces here as I expected, which is... Nice? Maybe we can have a decently boring meeting? Knock on wood. #ANCgov #ANCHgov
Looks like Perez-Verdia, Cross, and LaFrance are on the phone today, which means that Constant will be chairing the meeting. #ANCgov
Constant calls the meeting to order. Roll is called, everyone is present or on the phone. The pledge is said (with no yelling of "with liberty and justice for all", which is a welcome absence). Dunbar reads the land acknowledgement. #ANCgov

Just arrived at the Chambers for the Assembly meeting of 7/12. Sorry I missed the Mayor's and Chair's reports, those are always interesting. I am here for audience participation though! Looks like we're migrating from #ANCgov to #anchgov to prevent confusion with other government
Ah, my mistake, not Audience participation. We are approving the special election, which Daniel Volland won, placing him as the 12th member of the assembly. #ANCHgov
Constant says that through the work of the Fairview community, they were able to fight for equal representation with the rest of the municipality. He describes the process and time it took. He urges support. #ANCHgov
