Our @ArciniegaStreet crew just left Centennial Park after giving our houseless neighbors sandwiches and snack bags. These are human beings that Anchorage Mayor Dave Bronson has left for dead, out of sight in bear country & victim to the elements.

Here is what we witnessed. ๐Ÿงต
We witnessed children outside barefoot + in sandals w/only soaked sweaters as a source of warmth. The area is flooded. No umbrellas. Hardly any tarps. Everyone soaking wet & shivering, standing in line for food, frantically searching for coffee as a means to stay warm. #Anchorage
We witnessed a group of adults huddled by a fire, some rocking back and forth. Two of them were holding their jackets over an open fire with large sticks in an attempt to dry off their clothes. One of the volunteers said everyoneโ€™s clothes + blankets are sopping wet. #Anchorage

There's an ongoing blowup in #Anchorage. At 520p eastern, @SecBlinken and @JakeSullivan46 made about 10 minutes of initial statements. Blinken said US was pushing back against Chinese practices to ensure that "might does not make right."
Yang Jiechi responded for 18 minutes, criticizing US: "We don't believe in invading through use of force, topple other regimes, massacre people of other countries... Important for US to change own image... Many people in US have little confidence in US democracy..."
Yang then continued, raising cyber attacks--this time pausing to ensure the translator went sentence by sentence: "Whether it's ability to launch cyber attacks, or technologies that could be deployed, the US is the champion... You can't blame this problem on somebody else."

(1) #Earthquake near #Anchorage, Alaska in the last hour.

Moderately deep & strong, expect some damage, but loss of life unlikely. Magnitude is usually downgraded from initial level.

(3) Some photos from around Anchorage that I've seen on Twitter. In New Zealand we have an earthquake of this type about once or twice a year. It is scary, but thankfully little damage is done.

#DropCoverHold is the best advice. More: ready.gov/earthquake
(4) If you feel an earthquake when you're on a beach or within a few miles of the coast, be aware of #tsunami risk.

"If it's long or strong, get gone." There is no time for warning sirens or messages.

If you don't feel it, that means any tsunami is hours away. You have time.
