1. There's nothing revolutionary about incarcerating children
2. Why use the image of a Black boy to advertise prisons for children?
3. The colonial co-option of Youth Justice & Revolution is disrespectful
4. Paying prisoners in branded ‘Oasis Dollars’?! #secureschoolsareprisons
Youth Justice should mean abolishing the conditions that lead to imprisonment, such as isolation booths, exclusion, racism, ableism & poverty, not fast-tracking the school to prison pipeline.

We want this pipeline to be abolished, not extended. #endtheschooltoprisonpipeline
Children shouldn't be imprisoned. They need access to education that is fit for purpose & centres on their needs & experiences, not on a white, dominant, capitalist culture that sees our children as a commodity. We cannot let this happen. Humanise our children #antiracisted

Most of the headlines & articles tell us that students staged a walkout (the protest remained on site) due to upset over a flag & the uniform. These misperceptions imply students took drastic action to complain about minor things. Their actual demands have far more substance. Image 1/3 - Text reads: Sky News. Students tried to use the recommended school channels to raise concerns, they even got over 1000 people to sign a petition. This was ignored by the school's leadership. When you exhaust all available routes, what else is left to do to make change happen?

Some reflections from professional learning in anti-racism with respect to ED. I am calling my friends in because I think we need to do better.

I will always name inequities. I have personal lived experiences that are my evidence & I know these are not just my experiences.
But, and this is a hard but, I cannot be the only voice to name these inequities. In a conversation with my dad recently, he said to me- "you cannot be the only voice and you need to ask your allies, co-conspirators to speak up". And you know what? He's right.
So, as much as I appreciate your DMs of support, I am going to ask you make those public. Others in the conversation need to see that these are not only my experiences. That these are collective shared experiences in the context of education.

BREAKING: NY students file suit asserting a constitutional right to an anti-racist education, citing challenges of systemic racial inequities perpetuated by admissions screens, harrowing resource inequality, & Eurocentric curriculum as barriers #StudentTakeover #AntiracistEd 1/6
70 yrs after the filing of Brown v. Board of Education, students & advocates file a historic suit against the City and State, challenging racial hierarchies & asserting their right under the NY Constitution to an education that dismantles racism. 2/ #StudentTakeover #AntiracistEd
NYC public schools are some of the most segregated in the nation, reflecting a racialized pipeline that rewards families’ race & wealth privilege, and largely excludes students of color from the City’s prime educational opportunities. 3/ #StudentTakeover #AntiracistEd

It is with a heavy heart I write to you this evening, yet I am encouraged by those who choose to engage daily in #AntiRacistEd action. In the midst of a global pandemic when we were relegated to engaging with each other daily online and not face to face you chose to engage.
You chose to act on #AntiRacistEd when people around the globe took notice of state-sanctioned violence against black bodies. Perhaps you saw the students and families in your care in the faces of the black & brown bodies that have succumbed to this state-sanctioned violence.
Perhaps you saw harm in the rhetoric that has been spewed in our country to the students in your care. Today we experienced an unprecedented event that will go down in history. What is very apparent to me is that we as educators have control over the messaging, the engagement,
