We often get into debates with people about women in Islam. How they dress. Are they allowed to study. Are they forced to wear Hijabs, Can Muslim women ever be femisnists, Are they oppressed. What the Quran says on this or that. On #WomensDay let me share some insights
The recent global socio-political climate, has been such that the phrase “Muslim woman” might conjure an image of a demure powerless woman sheltered by her burqa, oppressed by her hijab. Yet this image is not what history records or what present shows.
Muslims believe that the first verses revealed to Prophet Muhammed were the first five verses in Surat Al-Alaq ("The Clot"), which orders people to seek knowledge.
Seeking knowledge is thus obligatory for every Muslim, male and female

We started with #AskAMuslim yesterday.I think it's time to tell the majority community few things. This is for those who hate and also to those who are our allies but end up saying things that are hurtful The only intention of this thread is to make you understand how we feel
1. Don't try to find distinction between Orthodox or moderates or liberals. Understand that none of us hate you.
A person who prays 5 times a day loves you as much as your muslim friend who doesn't. Don't identify the one who doesn't as liberal. High chances he/she is just lazy.
2. Some of us maybe hesitant in going to your places of worship or eating the offering. It's not because we don't respect your religion but because we are a monotheistic faith and can't bow our head before any deity. It's really an awkward situation for us.
