Doing social media for @NewSanctuaryNYC means I rarely take a break from #immigration news. Every day the Trump administration looks for another way to cause harm to black & brown people. Thread highlights some of the current policies. We MUST not stop fighting back. #impeach 👇🏼
The Trump administration is doing another secretive pilot test in El Paso, this time “Prompt Asylum Claim Review,” a program to speed up deportation of #asylum seekers.…
"These new policies have resulted in the separation of family units, lasting trauma and heartache, and shocking detention conditions for both children and adults."…

Good Morning everyone! This @NicoletteGlazer twitting as a guest to my mom's account coz Twitter think blocking trolls is automation or twitting about Admin's appalling immigration policies & practices is harassing. So this is twitter version of moving into ur parent's basement.
@NicoletteGlazer Well it is worth the embarrassment because it is a big, big day at the 9th Circuit today. Both the Asylum Ban and #RemaininMexico (MPP) are up for oral argument back to back and it WILL be epic.…

As the #AsylumBan decision was issued, handing death sentences to 1000s of ppl seeking safety, I was crossing into the US from Mexicali after 3 days providing legal triage to victims of Trump’s #MigrantPersecutionProtocols. I then drove 4 hours back to LA, blissfully unaware. 1/
News of this cruel decision from #SCOTUS is sinking in within the context of what I saw and heard over the last three days. Seems like a good time to share a bit of what is happening in Mexicali, where 6000+ ppl have been forced back after seeking asylum. Here is my context. 2/
It’s brutally hot in Mexicali. When I arrived it was about 105 & ppl kept telling me it was 120 two weeks ago. Multiple ppl I met mentioned there kids had suffered illnesses related to the heat. And that’s another thing, there are so many kids. So many toddlers and babies. 3/

Here’s another asylum change: an unaccompanied child from the Northern Triangle countries of Central America could be returned against their will without regard to whether they will be persecuted.

Here’s why... /1
Under current law such kids aren’t barred at all from requesting asylum and they are placed in removal proceedings and can request asylum affirmatively. /2
Under this bill they could be repatriated unless an immigration officer who screens them finds that it is more probable than not that they will be trafficked or that they could establish eligibility for asylum. Here’s the catch... /3

🚨San Diego!🚨

YOU can directly support the #MigrantCaravan & get people out of detention. By serving as a “custodian” for someone charged under the Trump admin’s “zero-tolerance” policy, you can ensure someone’s release & give them a fighting chance at asylum. Here’s how: /1
We’ve been posting bail for people charged w/ “illegal entry” in SD under #OperationStreamline. The court made it harder for us to post bail by requiring people have “custodians” in the community in order to be released, even if their bail's been paid. /2…
Here’s where we need you! We’re looking for community members, congregations, and organizations willing to serve as “third-party custodians.” This will mean the difference between freedom and detention. If you can volunteer, please fill out this form: /3

UPDATE: The Presidential proclamation barring certain non-citizens from seeking #asylum after crossing the Southern border is out. How will they limit it to the #MigrantCaravan? How much more illegal can this thing get?

I haven't even read this, so let's get through ittogether
(This thread is going to be a sequel to yesterday's on the "final interim rule" rushed into effect in anticipation of this proclamation, so you might want to read that one first.)

These #s appear to be the entire justification for the proclamation, and they badly need context. They may sound scary if you're new to the issue, but check out the overall historical picture & tell me this is a natl. emergency worthy of suspending a 4,000 year-old legal right
