The only #ballet in the world dancing with rifles—"The Red Detachment of Women" (1971)
It is based on true story of #RedArmy female soldiers fighting vicious enemies in Hainan Island.
Putting aside politics, it is excellent enough from today's purely artistic point of view.(1/2)
For political reasons, it was banned after end of Mao era.
But in 2022, a new version began to perform in China.
But in my opinion, modern slim actresses are quite out of play, nothing like those real RedArmy female warriors, also failed to show fighting spirit of that era(2/2)
An old photo:
1974, 🇫🇷 President G. Pompidou visited China and watched "The Red Detachment of Women" accompanied by pm ZhouEnlai & comrade JiangQing. Image

We celebrate that dance is a place where people of different backgrounds can come together around a common love for self expression through movement. But we are watching our dance communities crumble under the divisive ideology of critical theory/identity politics.
There are still racial injustices in the world. We believe that the best way to fight them is to work together as a community and as equals, regardless of skin color, sex, sexual orientation, gender, etc.
We see the racism happening in the classic sense, but we also see the racism happening within woke ideology and we are standing apart from it.

Sono Osato was a Japanese-American dancer from Chicago who achieved early success before gov't policies targeting people of Japanese ancestry during WWII interrupted her career and broke apart her family.

Grace Dummelle, Genealogy and Local History Library Assistant at the Newberry, discusses Sono's life and her experience during WWII.
"She was not just a ballet dancer. She danced on Broadway in the original productions of 'On the Town' and 'One Touch of Venus'."

What a day! I've always believed that showing our #littleones what we do as 'grown ups' is vital. Do you agree? 🤔

She sees it as my #job however, it really is a #passion I try to show her the fun bits too! #wigs are great when your 5 and a little more than 5! #perksofthejob
I also like to let her try out things she is interested in. She saw The Kildare Academy of Dance and wanted to try #ballet with Miss Jenny. She loves it! The academy are performing The #Nutcracker this #Christmas
When it comes to performing I don't get up on stage but I do like to spin some fire! Any fellow #poi folk out there?
I used this skill when we ran The Moat Performing Arts Carnival #spinning #fire
I spun Fire at the canal after a candlelit walk down to the water
