Is #concentration rising? @AffeldtPauline, @JoannaPiechucka, #KlausGugler and I use a novel dataset containing information on over 20,000 relevant antitrust markets between 1990-2014 to assess this question: cepr.org/active/publica…. We find quite some heterogeneity. A thread 1/N
The extant literature measures #concentration using #industry classifications. Data are mostly aggregated at the national/regional level for all products. Yet, both the #geographic and the #product market definitions should be based on the #substitutability among products. 2/N
Our database identifies over 20,000 product/geographic #antitrust markets affected by over 2,000 mergers scrutinized by the European Commission between 1995-2014. This allows measuring concentration consistently on an economy-wide basis over time (diw.de/documents/publ…) 3/N

#AbLeg
Dear diary,
I know no matter what, I must put my feelings aside and never be aggressive to a person. It's part of being a service dog.
But right now I wish I was allowed to take a big crap on the steps of the #AlbertaLegislature to show my disgust. The humans ... 1/9
that have the privilege to represent #Alberta citizens are preaching #inclusion and promising to tear down #barriers and tackle systemic #discrimination are the same people that let my mistress slip through the cracks and are why we live in nearly complete #segregation from...2/9
our community. They claim to promote #inclusion and #independence of the disabled with their tax payer funded program to provide essential #mobility equipment, like the power wheelchair my mistress needs so we can leave our home without human assistance. More than a year...3/9

Interestingly, in a time of #COVID, with the capacity for hundreds to attend conference calls on many platforms, the online event appears to be "Sold Out".

Will be interested to hear how it went...

Meanwhile, @cdei's '#AIBarometer' is here:
gov.uk/government/pub…
On "knowledge barriers" in particular, public opinion on exploitation of their medical records is pretty well-mapped and consistent; asking slightly different questions to elicit the answers you'd like ain't gonna help much. (And asking 'em *during a pandemic* is redundant.) Image
Again on "#barriers" (a terribly negative framing, which makes #protections & #GoodPractice sound like deliberately erected impediments...) @cdei does name some very real #challenges here 👇

If #data use & #innovation isn't #consensual, #safe and #transparent it just won't fly! Image

Hi God.
It's me. Kuno.
I know there's lots of going on in the world and you're hearing lots of complaints. Today I want to say Thank You.
1 year ago me n my mentordog Roxy were put in the bedroom and listened as strangers came and took our mistress away in an ambulance.
#faith
I didn't understand what was going on, I just knew it was bad. Mistress's daughter came and stayed with us a long time. Many many moons.
A few times she would take Roxy dog with her, and when they came home I could smell mistress on Roxy and took comfort knowing she was ok.
Finally, after 40 days, I got to go with Roxy and we waited in a courtyard at the hospital. I FINALLY got to see my person ❤!!! But things had changed. She couldn't stand up and come to me. She stayed in a funny chair and was missing most of her legs.

In #FamilyMedicine we care across the lifespan. We have long-term relationships with our patients. We're in a unique position to advocate for our patients and for changes in our healthcare system. Here's my clinic's journey and why I worry (1/5) #onpoli #MedTwitter #primarycare Image
When I finished training to become a #FamilyDoctor, I wanted to create a space for everyone to feel safe and supported. I converted a little brick house into a clinic and opened CommonGroundGlebe (2/5). #MedTwitter #DoctorsDay #onpoli Image
We do #perinatal care, #Pediatrics, #geriatrics, #psychotherapy. We care for multiple generations. We do #palliative care home visits. I’ve cried at the bedside when patients gave birth, and also when they died. This is in jeopardy (3/5). #MedTwitter #onpoli #DoctorsDay #COVID19 Image

Hullo, what have we here @MoHFW_INDIA ?!

Your recently released Clinical Establishments guidelines 2019 indicate that 'mentally disabled' will need a guardian for informed consent!

First off why are you equating disabled people with minors?

#Capacity Appendix 9 EXTRACT
INFORMED CONSENT or CONSENT GUIDELINES
The informed consent shall at the least contain the following information in an understandable language and format (desirably which a lay person can easily understand)
@MoHFW_INDIA @EqualsCPSJ @RajivSpeaks @Deepak_TMN @drsitu @netshrink @vjayakumar @amritbakhshy @val_resh @SmithaSadasiva5 Next - bad enough we've had to suffer conflation of 'unsound mind' with mental illness, now we have a sweeping 'mental disability' which means ... what exactly?
@MoHFW_INDIA @EqualsCPSJ @RajivSpeaks @Deepak_TMN @drsitu @netshrink @vjayakumar @amritbakhshy @val_resh @SmithaSadasiva5 If you cannot assume capacity for all, suspect capacity for all. Stop singling out disabled people for guardian consent.
Embrace diversity in communication and supported decision making.
No mention of advance directives?
