Since we've heard of Toronto shelters being shut down, I am going to share w/ permission a story of a refugee family now living in #BeachesEastYork. These are the stories of the people impacted by these decisions🧵
In Nov 2019, a Mexican non-governmental org supporting those escaping gender-based violence put a call-out in an international Facebook group asking for people in Toronto who could help a refugee family of two young children and their parents.
They were arriving the next day w/ essentially the clothes on their backs (not suited to a Canadian winter). A member of an east end parenting group I am a part of shared this call, & a few of us rallied to welcome them.
I received this disappointing email from @FairVoteCanada dedicating paragraphs to my #LPC MP for his "action" on electoral reform. The thing is, he was elected on this promise, & it was a lie. He continues to run for & support this party who will not implement ER. 
They gave 2 lines to the candidates who are running for parties that will implement ER. So which is it @FairVoteCanada? Do you want us to support complicity or vote for change? #Elxn44 #cdnpoli
they give him kudos for asking his govt to apologize for this. No. I don't want an apology. I want to vote in people who will make it happen. That should have been the focus of their email.
