Bengaluru's infamous traffic, which usually triggers memes and on worse days causes delays in ambulances reaching critical patients, has thrown up an inspiring story.
On August 30, Dr Govind Nandakumar, a gastroenterology surgeon with Manipal hospitals, got stuck in traffic in the Sarjapur-Marathahalli stretch while he was on his way to perform a scheduled gallbladder surgery.
Mindful that his first patient for the day was already prepped for surgery and there were others who were also expecting their procedures to be performed later, Nandakumar got out of his car and ran to the hospital, which was around 3km away.
1.Working relentlessly for 36 hours, Engineers & personnel of @chairmanbwssb have successfully drained out 20 feet of flooded water and repaired the machines by cleaning moisture in them at TK Halli pumping station. @TOIBengaluru #bengalururains #Bengaluru #water #Karnataka

however the situation was brought under control quickly and the flooding is localised between two biggest lakes Bellandur and Varthur. The flooding is only limited to 5-6 sq km out of 800 Sq km area of Bengaluru. 2/4

Only Mahadevpura zone out of 8 zones got severely affected. We are using around 20 boats and equal number of pumps to evacuate and flush out the water. Action is taken to remove obstacles in the water ways to prevent flooding. 3/4

When it rains heavily, and if you live in a low lying valley in Bengaluru, the amount of rain above your home doesn't matter.
