And here are the lightning round answers from the DC Ward 3 Transport Forum with @waba. #bikedc (watch here facebook.com/wabadc/videos/…)

Do you support the installation of a Protected Bike Land on CT Ave?
We understand that NPS will not decide about Beach Drive until after the primary. Do you support keeping Beach Drive closed to motorized vehicles seven days per week?
Do you support Councilmember Allen’s proposal to give each DC resident $100 per month as a transit credit?

After yesterday's beautiful #bikedc weather, I'd like to share info on two new road safety bills that will make three big changes:

1⃣ Require @DDOTDC to upgrade temporary safety installations➡️permanent infrastructure
2⃣ Restrict right turns on red
3⃣ Legalize the Idaho Stop 🧵
If an immediate safety improvement is needed, @DDOTDC will often build out tactical safety infrastructure (think curb extensions, plastic bollards, etc).

While quick + cost-effective, these temporary materials often fall short on quality, safety standards, & durability.
The 'Upgrading Tactical Safety Projects Act' is an accountability bill designed to require an annual plan to convert tactical safety projects ➡️ permanent installations. It mandates both progress targets and community/ANC engagement.

The difference between plastic and permanent:

Our joint meeting extravaganza on the future of H St NE is starting now - come one, come all! CART (captioning) provided. #WalkDC #BikeDC

Mark Sussman, nearby resident, reminds us that 25 H St businesses signed an open letter to @DDOTDC asking for transit-only lanes, sidewalk extensions, and replacing parking spaces with pick-up/drop-off zones:
Roy Gross, Director of Operations for Atlas Theater, comments that on December 23 that a driver going an estimated 70 miles per hour veered across all lanes of traffic and crashed into Atlas.

"We could easily have had 100 to 200 people standing there."

They need bollards.

Well. Trying to install tubeless tires on my bike by myself is the messiest and stupidest thing I’ve done all year.

Any tips or recommendations for shops to take this mess to, #bikedc? ImageImageImageImage

Essential personnel without cars who use the W&OD to bike to work are now blocked frequently by the many pedestrians out walking; it’s both dangerous and keeps them from getting to work/home after a long day.

How can we let people know to move for cyclists/stop crowding?
They’re not complaining; they’ve asked for alternate routes as a solution—but if these cyclists “take the lane” it creates abundant new problems.
People WANT to do the right thing when they’re told what the right thing is.

If I made a few signs: ESSENTIAL PERSONNEL RIDE THIS TRAILS TO WORK—PLEASE KEEP OUT OF THEIR WAY ...would that work? #bikedc

There have been 57 police-reported crashes with non-motorists on Old Georgetown Rd since 1/1/15. 24 🚴‍♀️, 30 🚶‍♀️, 3 other.

42% of non-motorists struck on Old Georgetown Rd are people on bikes.

County-wide 21% of non-motorists struck are 🚴‍♀️.

@MDSHA @MCDOTNow @MoCoCouncilMD
@MDSHA @MCDOTNow @MoCoCouncilMD Almost half of non-motorists struck on Old Georgetown Rd are people on🚲. This shows:

1. There is demand for🚲routes on Old Georgetown Rd.
2. Biking on Old Georgetown Rd is not safe.

We need a plan NOW for protected🚲routes AND wider sidewalks on Old Georgetown Rd.
