Ever since my kid was diagnosed with disability 6 years ago, I've been thinking about this: the world is not built for her, and people aren't conditioned to be considerate. 1/
The resources for disabilities are scarce, and the costs are getting more and more expensive every year. This is the reality of living with disabilities, and we don't have any plan other than investing in RDSP. 2/
3 years ago, there came a pathogen attacking multiple organs of our body. And after discovering of Omicron, the media even chearled the laissez-faire public health to further the plan of mass seroconversion by infection. The result? Mass disabling the population. 3/

There's 2 possible positions on Minister Lametti's comments encouraging the use of #MAID for suicide

He doesn't understand #MAID (in which case his tabling of #BillC7 is in serious question)

or

#MAID is a valid response to suicidal ideation sometimes
thestar.com/politics/provi…
You can't both suggest that Minister Lametti understands #MAID and also that isn't a valid response to suicidal ideation (at least under "certain conditions")

He's the one who tabled the amendments we are discussing
You either believe he is unfit for office and bypassed parliamentary procedure without understanding his actions

or

You believe #MAID should used as a "cure" for suicidal ideations(at least for Disabled/Mad people)

@DWDCanada which one is it?

This was the reasoning behind fast-tracking the #MAID legislation #BillC7(bypassing the regular process of appeal)

@DavidLametti why you appeal to process when it comes to raising support amounts, but appeal to emotion on this

How much longer do they have to suffer?

#MAID proponents would rather default to lying to themselves than just looking into claims made

Make no mistake this lack of interest in double-checking data is entirely self-serving; a quick google backs up what Carla says here
I don't suspect Jocelyn here is misleading us on purpose

I believe their Faith in the #MAID regime gives them reasons to jump to assumptions about accessibility without looking at the data that would confirm/deny the claim
Their following claim is just as bereft of citation

Their claim to the charter is not valid, in fact the discrimination inherit of only allowing access to Disabled people to #BillC7 pointed out by the UN is more likely to be a violation of the charter

TW: #MAiD Suicide Ableism

More about yesterday’s thread: Through tears and anger I’ve spent 3 week frozen for hours everyday trying and failing to write back a “friend” to explain why the mere suggestion that my suicide, assisted or otherwise, is acceptable bc I’m disabled is…
Dehumanizing and coercive in and of itself. It’s been incredibly painful and I’m personally really struggling. But I want to make a broader point. This pro-MAiD advocate isn’t just a “friend” who I’ve trusted with my heart and what’s going on my health before I knew this abt her.
I am also somewhat dependent on her. She’s the only local friend who has stuck around through Covid precautions and me being disabled due to pain. She does a lot of things for me with her car that I’m not sure what I’m going to do without. And THIS…

🧵 TW: Suicide #MAiD

I can’t tell if my grief is going to drown me with the 10 ft waves that keep washing over me with the #SuicideDue2Pain of my friend who deserved pain meds and every resource needed to cope but was denied by every govt system she sought help from for months.
Or if grief will swallow me whole & suck me into this pit of quicksand as I struggle to explain to a “friend” why I can no longer be friends w/ someone whose defence of assisted suicide is to tell me, a person in a similar sit as my friend, that I can always end my own life…
Just as long as I don’t stand in the way of others who, from their multiple options, think they *may* someday want to use MAiD. Gone are the arguments about compassion, dignity, autonomy and choice. Which have always been a smokescreen and a lie.

Here's an update on where the federal gov't is at re: the expansion of Medical Assistance in Dying. The Special Joint Committee on MAiD has been struck. It met today & heard from staff at the Department of Justice & Health Canada. #BillC7 #cndpoli 1/

📽️
The committee will meet until June 23rd and they are looking into:

-Rules as it relates to the expansion of MAiD for people with mental illnesses (which will be allowed starting 2023)
-Potential expansion of MAiD for "mature" minors
-Advanced directives, and more. 2/
Here is some of what we learned today: we know that about 200 people used MAiD who were not terminally ill since it expanded. We also know that MAiD deaths will make up 4% of deaths in Canada per year & that data around Black and Indigenous deaths won't be available until 2024 3/

FACT CHECK!

This is a heinous lie I continue seeing #LiberalTwitter tell, as some argument about #NDP obstructing the LPC, as an excuse for this election, let's unpack it.

THREAD 🧵

(1/9)

#DisabilityDebate #Elxn44 #CERB
No, the NDP did not, "vote against the disabled". They initially refused to support the Covid-19 spending bill in June, which contained a $600 payment for disabled Canadians. And for good reason.

The Liberals wanted to fine/jail CERB recipients! (2/9)
Which was pretty unfair, and necessary to stop, because LIBERAL MPs like Wayne Easter and Adam Vaughan who told people to apply for CERB whether they knew they qualified or not! Can we say, entrapment? I'm no lawyer but, unfair to say the least. (3/9)

THREAD 2:
1/ This is a good question. @MPJulian hammered the Liberals for giving the Big Banks $750 billion within days of the pandemic yet by October 2020 they hadn't fulfilled their commitment to provide financial aid to people with disabilities.
2/ April 29, 2020: Liberals agreed to raise the CESB student benefit to $2,000/month for students with disabilities (and/or those with kids). This was one of the NDP's demands to pass the bill. It was limited to students but was a policy win.
ctvnews.ca/health/coronav…
3/ In June 2020 the Liberals tried to bundle a one-time relief payment for people with disabilities into an omnibus bill which had many provisions the opposition parties could not support. NDP criticized the limited eligibility and fought for a new bill.

"As many persons with disabilities said during the visit, they are being offered the choice between a nursing home and medical assistance in dying."

Before #BillC7 amendments were tabled this Report was published demanding a review of the 2016 C14 Medical Assistance in Dying Legislation

Review of the Legislation was outstanding and instead of properly reviewing they put forwards C7 with unprecedented radical policy changes
Among the most radical of these changes is the removal of the requirement that death be reasonably forseeable to access state-assisted suicide

This takes the legislation away from true euthanasia by definition and creates a two-tiered suicide response by the government

I’m so fucking sick of this shit, we’re now in the middle of a third wave, with a province wide shutdown, and we’re getting no help from the government despite Covid cases rising here in Ontario, and with everything from increased costs of using grocery delivery services ... 1/9
the rising cost of groceries, plus having to buy PPE, this is, well, let’s just call it what it is, the genocide and culling of disabled people by the government (both provincially and federally), especially when the only option in front of us is MAID ... 2/9
which the government has made clear by passing Bill C7, honestly how the fuck am I and others relying on social assistance expected to survive this pandemic, hell we’re not even prioritized early on the vaccine list despite many who are immunocompromised ... 3/9

We are onto a new segment with @biopoliticalph who is going to read one of her papers.

"Philosophy of disability, conceptual engineering and nursing home industrial complex."

#DisabilityFilibuster

[hope I got that right]
.@biopoliticalph Whether it be data collection, Covid vaccines, housing or income security, disabled Canadians - who have been disproportionately dying from the pandemic - have been left out.

"Neo-eugenics bio-politics"
.@biopoliticalph is explaining what a total institution is and why nursing homes are total institutions.

This video is very helpful for anyone not familiar with the term.

Good morning to everyone opposed to #BillC7

We are busy working today to get the #DisabilityFilibuster back up and running after two concurrent 'zoom-bombings' by hateful people.

We have already made progress in this regard and things are in motion. We'll keep updating.
We are disgusted with Liberal Party and Bloc's plan to invoke a time allocation "guillotine" to shut down debate on amendments to #BillC7 that were made in February by the Senate. These amendments radically expand an already expansive Bill further.

thestar.com/politics/2021/…
Contrary to what Liberal Party and Bloc are suggesting there has not been months of debate on these amendments to #BillC7
Very little debate has in fact taken place about them. The original bill did not include mental illness as sole criteria for state administered death

This is a thread about the Disability Filibuster on #BillC7
Disabled Canadians and our allies around the world plan to leave it all on the field in the final days of the Bill C7 debate
A live Zoom solidarity broadcast running round-the-clock, 24/7 beginning before Parliament sits
on Monday, March 8 and not stopping until the Prime Minister withdraws #BillC7 and returns to
the drawing board.
Parliament is scheduled to sit March 8-12 and March 22-26. Somewhere during that interval, it
appears that the Prime Minister is planning to pass #BillC7 – likely sooner rather than later.
