#Riseup #StandWithHongKong #FightForHongKong #WatchTheWater. Yesterday the authorities in Hong Kong declared that today’s March was illegal & anyone attending would be arrested. That fell on deaf ears as hundreds of thousands poured into the streets today. #RainOrShine
Since this March was declared illegal it was decided that today’s event would be a “Religious March” as the police can’t arrest anyone at a religious event. #ThesePeopleAreBrilliant #HiveMind! This showed up at a religious gathering last night.

Let's talk about #BlackBloc, and why some antifascists wear masks.

"Antifa" are anyone who stand up against fascism, masked or otherwise. Black bloc and antifa are not interchangeable terms. Black bloc is not a group but a tactic some use, sometimes. #DefendPDX
Black bloc traditionally acts as the first line of defense against violent fascists and out of control cops. They're people who train and prepare to take the brunt of the violence so other people who can't can still feel safe coming to a protest.
Black bloc as a tactic was developed by autonomists in Europe, then came to the US during protests like the "Battle in Seattle" against the World Trade Organization in 1999.

(This is long before groups of Americans were using the term "antifa" to describe themselves.)

A couple bike squads are hanging out around them with non-lethals.
Two short busses filled with Proud Boys just showed up. I’d say about 100 are here now.

In June 2018, the Portland @ICEgov office was under siege by hundreds of angry occupiers. They blocked & guarded all the building's exits. Portland Police & Mayor @tedwheeler refused to help the trapped workers who pled for help. #AndyNgoPhotos…
