The smell around Tesla is getting weirder.

US enquiry to probe suspicions that Tesla’s autopilot is designed to auto-quit when a crash is imminent… so that the driver is liable on the moment of impact - and Tesla’s system escapes scrutiny or bad stats. fortune.com/2022/06/10/elo…
Since this blew up, and I don’t have a soundcloud, why not plug into this:

The @blackinxnetwork is a great place to connect with Black and brown peeps across loads of different scientific, academic, and industrial spaces. It’s also home to THE coolest nerd-fuel. 🔥🏆👏
And mad props as ever to @That_Astro_Chic, @CheyennePolius and the #blackinastro posse for all the nerd (rocket) fuel over the years. 🏆🚀🧠👏

#BlackinChem Thread!!

Here's how this came to be.

You may have noticed several #blackandSTEM campaigns on Twitter this summer, like #BlackBirdersWeek #BlackHikersWeek @BlackInNeuro and @That_Astro_Chic 's #BlackinAstro . #BlackinChem is no different
I saw #BlackinAstro going viral and tweeted that I would love to curate #BlackinChem (with some help) and that's when @That_Astro_Chic and I connected and got to WORK! She introduced me to @onlyayanna_ and along the way came @NatRodLopes1 @kathinated @hi_d_nq and @blackinthelab
We all got together and started dumping a LOT of ideas in our group message and eventually settled on curating a week where each day focuses on a particular subdivision of chemistry. Image

Hey y'all! I'm back! So I started #BlackInAstro to show to NB astronomers that our lives are valuable too!
We are not a trend! We are people too. Often times we are treated as if we don't matter. My beautiful and intelligent Black sisters and brothers in astronomy has shown continuously that they deserve to be in that space.
In this @astrobites interview, I talk about it astrobites.org/2020/06/22/bla…

Hey y'all! My name is Ashley Walker (@That_Astro_Chic ). I've curated Real Scientists in October of 2018! Allow me to re-introduce myself. I'm a intern for @NASAGoddard in the Astrochemistry Lab and is the founder of #BlackInAstro week which JUST ended yesterday! (A thread)
A little bit more about me. I'm from Chicago, IL (the BEST side which is the south side). I received my BS in Chemistry from @ChicagoState University. During my time there, I've interned at Harvard which I studied early planet forming disks.
I've also interned at Johns Hopkins and studied planetary atmospheres, specifically Saturn's moon Titan. (My baby! 🥺) This project was also presented as my senior thesis defense!

We’ve been highlighting current Black people in Astronomy and Astrophysics during #BlackInAstro week, now it’s time to highlight those that history suppresses. Those that have made contributions that have paved the way for modern science.

We’re starting this thread off with Benjamin Banneker (1731-1806). He was celebrated as the first Black Astronomer in the US. He began his career as a surveyor and went on to use his knowledge to write almanacs about the positions of the Sun, moon, and planets.
(2)
Dr. Arthur Bertram Cuthbert Walker II (1936-2001). He was a solar physicist and actively studied the Sun using x-ray and UV sensors. His methodologies are still used in astrophysics today! There is also an award given in his name by the Astronomical Society of the Pacific.

The disney princesses reimaged as scientists (by Matthew Burt) is one of my favorite images. When I was little I loved barbies and princesses and my little self looked up to them as strong women who didn't let other people get in the way of their dreams. Image
Now that I'm older, I'm lucky to have met real-life people that I admire and aspire to be like. I am privileged to know these people and this is why diversity and representation is so important. Everyone deserves to have someone they can look up to.
If you haven't already take some time to listen, learn, and amplify the voices from #BlackintheIvory and follow #BlackInAstro this week. We can't have true equity in STEM until we support Black scientists.
