I've never read the books but Game of Thrones was bad in this regard too. Maybe not as bad (maybe? Idk I quit watching GoT early on) but still bad. Is this a GRRM thing or do people thing it needs to be gross and awful as a TV adaptation?

After learning about the Savannah plantation from Max, Silver asks Flint a very simple question: now that we are so close to achieving everything we've worked for, wouldn't you trade it all (this war, Nassau, me, wouldn't you trade US) to have Thomas back?
Flint deflects the question, he replies that if Thomas knew that they were so close, he wouldn't want him to. And Silver of course sees right through him: "though that wasn't really what I asked, was it?". And through Flint's silence it is heavily IMPLIED that yes, he WOULD.

While digging into content about this show, I've noticed a (VERY) small corner of fans who hate that Silverflint is "only subtext" & think it was some cardinal sin. They've missed... several points. After yelling in DMs I'm tweeting to get it out of my system & in one place.
& to make sure there's no misunderstanding: Silverflint IS CANON via subtext. Steinberg's quotes & the show both demonstrate that. The feelings are reciprocated & shown via parallels & actions, but the characters can't discuss it.
