The demand for #BogibeelBridge started in early 1960s. Even the Chinese aggression couldn't wake successive #Congress govts to move an inch towards realising people's dream of a much needed bridge.
People struggled for decades, students fought with successive Congress govts but they wont blink. Ultimately, it took the might of #AssamAgitation to take note of #BogibeelBridge demand.
1985: #Assam Accord was signed whereby #BogibeelBridge was committed by #Congress government led by then Prime Minister late #RajivGandhi. A demand - among many others - that was acknowledged after martyrdom of 855 young students of #Assam

Hope to travel on the gigantic #BogibeelBridge one day. But glad to have travelled umpteen times on the Godavari bridge near Rajahmundry, en route Vizag from Chennai-BLR. Every time train reached here, could not just help looking out, awesome sight.
Most memorable experience I had on this bridge, rainy night, cud not get much sleep, bogie was empty, just sat up when it was crossing the bridge. Goosebumps sight watching the Godavari in full flow, in the night.
But nothing really to beat the experience of crossing the Pamban bridge near Rameswaram. Heart in mouth experience, just the sea all around, no protective railings either. Magnificient, pulse pounding

Thread: on 28th May 2018 me and @chanya_manya decided to take a small detour and go see the #BogibeelBridge over the mighty Brahmaputra River near Dibrugarh during our #RoadTo2019 expedition. Off the highway we were greeted with beautiful tea gardens spanning thousands of acres.
We knew only this

at 4.94kms India's longest rail cum road bridge has finally opened. It connects Arunachal and Assam. Some facts

Foundation laid in Jan 1997
Work started in April 2002
Completed only by Modi govt.

Price escalted from 1,767 to 5800 cr
We finally reached and we're greeted with huge machinery and manpower along with security personnel manning the then under construction two storeyed bridge.

And we couldn't believe our eyes. The river. Huge. H. U. G. E. We couldn't see the opposite bank. 😱
