Male Australian redback spiders are the ultimate dinner date: upon releasing sperm during mating, the male is eaten by the female in what is known as ‘reproductive cannibalism’ - arguably the least sexy phrase ever.

Hi tweeps! Remember back in March, I made a mega-thread of amazing #WomenInSTEM that you should follow, especially for #IWD2018? If not, here's the 'moment' I made from it twitter.com/i/moments/9718…
Well, today (19 Nov) is #InternationalMensDay #IMD2018, and I wanted to mark the occasion. So here are SIXTY men working in STEM who also happen to be some of my favourite tweeps. This is by no means an exhaustive list - please don't be offended if you're not on it!
PS: I have some actual (paid) work to do today, so I'll update the list when I can, in between all my other commitments. Please be patient 😊

@jennyjennylord @wnbooks The first will be a short guide/analysis/weapon on the history of race and return of scientific racism. The second, will be my Opus Colossus, basically the story of the universe and everything in it.
Working with @jennyjennylord and @hollharl and all at @wnbooks has been nothing but joy, and that is my literary home. They made A Brief History a huge success. Also, of course, my thanks to my man @zcosini, consigliere and partner.

Any suggestion of the creators is speculation, as are motives. They are often called fertility amulets, due to exaggerated sexual traits. 2/n
They may be that, or dolls, or porn by some horny teenager. Sometimes they have small heads, and it has been suggested that that’s because we don’t see our own heads. 3/n

Final corrections of the #bookofhumans sent, including new refs from last week, and it's off to the printers.

So could you scientists not do any work for like 6-12 months now, in the fields of human evo, cognition, sex, aDNA.
Go on, have a break, you've earned it. THANKS.
And I'll be talking about this book for the first time at @Ri_Science on the 12th September.
