(2) ImageImage

#Investing

A book that must be read by all direct equity investors but will be appreciated & understood by a few, that too only after witnessing an entire cycle play out in markets.

Few of my takeaways from this 💎 by Howard Marks.

👇🏽 Image
2/30

To consistently beat the market,
You either need a ton of luck or superior insight & awareness of psychology.

Because investing is at least as much of an art as it is a science, it is essential that one's investment approach be intuitive & adaptive always.
3/30

All investors can't beat the market, since collectively, they are the market.

Stellar returns majorly come from correct non consensus forecasts.

Here Second Level Thinking matters immensely.
And the number of people capable of it is tiny.

What is Second Level Thinking ? ImageImageImage

In 2019, I was browsing at the Crossword bookstore when I stumbled upon a beautiful poem. I added the book to my wishlist, but unfortunately, it remained there for quite some time. Despite searching for it at various locations, I could not find it.
After a considerable amount of time, I was finally able to locate the book in an online store. The long wait is over, and I am eager to have it in my possession finally. It's time to dive into its pages and get lost in its words.

Bravehearts of Bharat - @vikramsampath

An impulsive purchase from @PadhegaIndia_ , this book is a treasure trove of gems from our history. A highly recommended MUST read / must have in collection

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️3/4

Review below 👇

1/
History is filled with multiple stories of quite well known personalities. However, there are quite a large number whose stories are not widely known to the general populace.

This anthology of 15 such Bravehearts tries to bridge this vacuum to some extent.

2/
Beautifully curated accounts of 15 personalities across geography and time, with quite a equanimous representation of women, this book gives a crisp into the background, lives and contributions of these personalities in the annals of Indian history.

If you perfectly combine history, geography, science, mythology, and fiction, you'll have a delicious book cocktail. Aside from the Bharat series, there is no such thing as a perfect book cocktail.

The seventh book in the Bharat series is The Magicians of Mazda.
Books in the Bharat series are, as usual, very catchy. I'm accustomed to finishing Ashwinji's book faster than others. When I start reading any book in the Bharat series, my reading speed increases, and I try to finish the last chapter as soon as possible.

#DecisionMaking

How To Decide by Annie Duke.

A brilliant no frills book that offers a framework for thinking about how to improve your decision making , along with a set of tools that help execute it.

A few of my takeaways from this gem !
2/18
There are only 2 things that determine HOW your life turns out : LUCK & QUALITY OF DECISION MAKING.

We have some control over only one of those two things.

When you make better quality decisions, you increase the chances of good things happening to you.
3/18
Our objective is to choose an option that gains most ground in achieving our goals.
Sometimes which entails the least risk.

Thereby we examine the quality of the beliefs informing the decision, the available options & try to envisage the future based on our choices.

The Courage To Be Disliked is an extremely logic oriented look at happiness and life.

Snippets of it may sound patronising at times but it leaves you with more questions than answers - It forces you to think!🙂

Some takeaways via a 🧵..

2/28
The world in itself is simple. Life in itself is simple.

It is WE who make it complicated.

How ?
By Comparison.

We all live in a subjective world that we OURSELVES have given meaning to from OUR perspective.

So how can then they be the same for all ? 🙂
3/28
Ever observed how the world seems beautiful at times , sometimes mean & selfish , at times helpful ?

So does the world actually keep changing or does our subjective world change due to the change in our projections ? 🤔

Something worth reflecting upon !

#LetsTalkMoney by @monikahalan is all about US understanding OUR Needs & Wants, & constructing OUR Money Box.

It helps BUILD a system in place , rather than focusing on a (non existent ) single shot solution.

MUST READ FOR ALL !

#BookRecommendation

A 🧵 on it .
👇
2/15
Firstly, build your own system to manage Cash Inflows & Outflows .
Find a way that's least troublesome but automatically separates the 2.

#Budgeting & #Allocation must not be a cumbersome task !

Easy bifurcation helps in Better mapping.

A bird's eye view on the same 👇
3/15
Moving onto Emergencies . This pandemic has made so many of us realise the importance of it .

Another interesting facet :
Unwillingness to take risks comes from the FEAR of not having money when needed - typically why Bank F.Ds are preferred.

Hence the EMERGENCY fund.

" Zen and the Art of Happiness "

It's a simple book but it makes you think .

Few of my takeaways ( with random 2 min doodles).
👇
Firstly,
What is Zen ?

#Zen is a Japanese word that is derived from the Sanskrit word Dhyana meaning "Meditation" .
2/21
Zen is a journey of exploration & a way of living that , in and of itself doesn't belong to any one religion or tradition as such.

Zen doesn't teach. It merely
points, enabling us to wake up & become aware.

Ever noticed how zen stories rarely have predefined morals? 🤓
3/21

The zen of doing anything is doing it with a concentration of mind , a calmness & simplicity of mind, that brings the experience of enlightenment and, through that experience , happiness.

It could be something as mundane as sweeping or peeling potatoes !

MY TAKEAWAYS FROM ATOMIC HABITS by @JamesClear

A spectacular book that focuses on building HABITS following SYSTEMS to achieve RESULTS - Instead of the traditional GOAL BASED approach.

It's a highly engaging read with plenty of practical examples .

#BookRecommendation
2/20
Your OUTCOMES are a lagging measure of your HABITS . Although difficult to appreciate on a daily basis , they MATTER IMMENSELY.
Change your habit ,to change the outcome.

It doesn't matter WHERE you are currently,
CHANGE YOUR HABIT TO CHANGE THE TRAJECTORY OF YOUR LIFE!👇
3/20
You do not RISE to the level of your GOALS .You FALL to the level of your SYSTEMS .

Why so ?

Both WINNERS & LOSERS have a Goal . What then sets them apart ?

It's having a SYSTEM in place.
Systems are forever & they result in continuous SELF IMPROVEMENT .

IKIGAI : A reason for BEING .

I have structured the essential bits & pieces of the book in a flow for easy understanding + compiled some handwritten notes.

As always these are just MY TAKEAWAYS from the book :))
#ikigai
#BookReview
#BookRecommendation Image
2/
Firstly what is #IKIGAI ?

The Japanese call it - A REASON TO JUMP OUT OF BED EACH MORNING.

It's a convergence of 4 things .
*What you love
*What you are good at
*What you can get paid for
*What the world needs .

We need to find our Ikigai in life!
(Pic from the net) Image
3/
Let's begin with DAILY HEALTH HABITS.

A SOUND MIND IN A SOUND BODY .

Both our MIND & BODY must be exercised well to avoid deterioration in latter years of life .

Have a mental workout routinely by stepping out of your COMFORT ZONE.
Expose yourself to CHANGE.

By far the best book I have read in a long long time.
One can simply begin from any page, for each note makes so much sense that we get lost in them , sometimes chuckling & often amazed .

Here are MY learnings from
" A Book of Simple Living" by Ruskin Bond.
2/22
The book is enriched with life lessons . Most profound of all for me being ,

#Life is simple despite all its hardships and complexities .
For the purpose of life is to live ....

Now, how we choose to live our life makes it simple or complicated.
3/22

Do we chase #happiness by climbing infinite mountains in the quest for fame & wealth or do we savour the goodness in the little things that often come our way but go unnoticed and unappreciated by us ?
For ultimately , " It is the little things that matter the most ".

An interactive workshop: the facilitator is engaging learners in dialogue, reflection, and interaction for most of the session.

Yes? No? Thoughts?

And I strongly agree with Fred that we should be transparent about which type of session we're offering.

I'm often asked to recommend books on Indian history, culture, etc. but am unable to respond to each request individually.

To address those numerous requests, here's a thread on India-specific book recommendations.
Philosophies of India by Heinrich Zimmer.

A book that was edited and published by Joseph Campbell after the author's death.

Excellent both as an in-depth resource book & as an overview to understanding Indian spirituality.
