#Climate impacts are already costing us billions annually. Meanwhile, the Ford government ramps up fossil gas generation, pushes ahead with #Highway413 and the #BradfordBypass, and plans to pave over the #Greenbelt.
Tuesday's FAO report shows yet another massive bill is coming. More extreme rainfall will increase the cost of maintaining storm and wastewater infrastructure by a whopping $6.2 billion by 2030.
The fact that the #BradfordBypass has become such a key election issue is a testament to the power of grassroots organizing. Just over a year ago, community organizations, activists, and residents came together to campaign for an updated environmental assessment. And here we are.
We’ve been called liars and “downtown ideological activists” by Mayors and Premiers. In reality? We’re people who live in Simcoe County and York Region and want better for our families and communities. Most of us volunteer our time.
In 2016, 85% of the 600 BWG residents polled supported the Bypass. Today, more people polled in #YorkSimcoe oppose the Bypass than support it.

…and Doug Ford’s handlers are no different. The immediate discussion and subsequent lifting of protocols including masking shortly after the #OttawaOccupation ,sent the message that the Ford govt was listening to the plight…

The premise was based on the fact that 7 municipalities around Lake Simcoe put forward requests in 2021 for further study of the Bypass, not to mention the growing public sentiment AGAINST the highway project — Oracle poll found 48% of voters in 3 key ridings DON'T support it
Those following the #Highway413 project will remember a very similar narrative unfolding over a number of years after that highway project was resurrected by the PCs in 2018 — eerily similar.
