In 2010, Salima Memcha’s husband was killed in an alleged extrajudicial execution. She then joined, the Extrajudicial Execution Victim Families Association Manipur (EEVFAM).
Because of her activism, security personnel had vandalised Salima’s house and threatened her. She is not the only EEVFAM member to face reprisals this year.
We partnered with EEVFAM to launch the #BRAVE campaign to protect activists in Manipur and we managed some major wins!
LIVE: An Amnesty delegation of our campaigner @abhirrvp, Programme Director Asmita Basu and Executive Director @aakar_amnesty are currently in Saharanpur to visit Chandrashekhar Azad 'Ravan'.

1/3 On 13 August 2018, Jiten Yumnam, a Human Rights Defender from Manipur, was called to the police station by Manipur police. They claimed this pertained to an old pending FIR, but failed to provide any documentation. Yumnam has not been informed about any pending cases.
2/3 This is not the first time that Yumnam has been harassed by Manipur police. In September 2009, Yumnam was taken into administrative detention under the National Security Act and was allegedly subjected to torture.
3/3 This latest move by the Manipur police appears to be part of a larger pattern where HRDs in Manipur are being intimidated, attacked and harassed. #BRAVE
