I rewatched #BatmanvSuperman almost a month ago now and I’ve been tweeting sporadically about what caught my eye this time. Wanted to compile everything in a 🧵 that you can check out below! #RestoreTheSnyderVerse ImageImageImageImage

It’s a new Monday, so time for a new entry into the #BatmanvSuperman references the DC lore series. Today, it’s time for Part 2 of the last scene of the movie Amazing Grace in the 🧵 below! #RestoreTheSnyderVerse #BvSMondayMood Image
Part 1 was all about different DC references out there. And today it’s all going to be about the references (and differences) from the Funeral for a Friend storyline. So much to dissect so this one (my last one) is going to be a long one 😅, so let's get to it! Image
First off, there are several homages in the Metropolis funeral in #BvS to Funeral for a Friend. ImageImageImageImage

This scene (and the next ones, ups spoilers) homage several parts of the continuation to The Death of Superman storyline in comics which was called Funeral for a Friend, an 8 issue storyline across different comics. Image
However, the first reference in this scene is not to this storyline, but to All Star Superman #5 with Lex in prison with the orange suit and a classical look after being shaved. ImageImage

Not surprisingly, there are homages to the The Death of Superman storyline and specifically to Superman #75 which is the final comic in this run. And what a better time to do this thread as we get closer to celebrating the 30th anniversary of this classical moment in comics! ImageImage
So, we start with Clark saying to Lois how much he loves her before his final fight with Doomsday. ImageImage

It’s a new Monday, so time for a new entry into the #BatmanvSuperman references the DC lore series. Today, it’s time for the mythical Is She With You/Trinity versus Doomsday scene in the thread below! #RestoreTheSnyderVerse #BvSMondayMood Image
Several classical homages here to comics. Let’s start from one that was part of last week’s thread with Superman lying in space at the beginning of the scene and how it looks like Injustice: Gods Among Us #33. ImageImage
Then we get Batman saved by Wonder Woman as it is common in the Snyderverse. She has a very classical pose from the comics. And there might be several references in here. I really like how it looks like from Trinity #6 (which actually took place after #BvS). ImageImage

It’s a new Monday, so time for a new entry into the #BatmanvSuperman references the DC lore series. Today, it’s time for the Fallout scene in the 🧵 below! #RestoreTheSnyderVerse #BvSMondayMood Image
So let’s start where we finish off last week because the homages to The Dark Knight Returns (TDKR) #4 continue. First, we have the bomb going off homage in #BvS. ImageImageImageImage
Funnily enough, after the bomb explosion we get Batman saying Oh God in #BatmanvSuperman and in The Dark Knight Returns we get a similar one. This one from Carrie Kelley worried not that Superman is dead but rather that Bruce is. ImageImage

It’s a new Monday, so time for a new entry into the #BatmanvSuperman references the DC lore series. Today, it’s time for the Into Space scene in the 🧵 below! #RestoreTheSnyderVerse #BvSMondayMood Image
Just a small scene with a couple of references but one that I really like. First, we have Superman pushing Doomsday outside Earth. This is a homage to the Death of Superman storyline (specifically from the comic Superman: The Man of Steel #19). ImageImageImageImage
The homage visually continues for some seconds. Even we see Doomsday punching Superman in the direction back to Earth in #BvS close to how he’s kicked by Doomsday in this sequence from the comic. ImageImageImageImage

Midweek 🧵 incoming! Last Monday I analyzed Superman/Batman issues #53-#56 and how they are references #BatmanvSuperman. It was a lengthy one, so I left a couple of references out of it. So, here’s a bonus track 🧵 with them! #RestoreTheSnyderVerse
First, Bruce and Clark meeting at a gala just like in #BatmanvSuperman ImageImage
Batman’s classic entrance looking like the one in the Warehouse scene in #BvS. Also, him entering sort of a warehouse in the comic! ImageImage

It’s a new Monday, so time for a new entry into the #BatmanvSuperman references the DC lore series. Today, it’s time for Part 2 unpacking the Batman v Superman scene in the 🧵 below. Beware it’s a mighty long one 😅! #RestoreTheSnyderVerse #BvSMondayMood Image
Today it’s all going to be about the moment where Batman is about to be snapped out of his PTSD by Superman’s words about his mother, Martha. I wrote about this moment at length here if you want to check it out clarkjoedceu.wixsite.com/into-the-snyde…
But there is also an interesting comic reference to this moment that I only saw some months ago from @TheNewAsgard. And the more I got into the storyline that contains this moment the more I thought it deserved its own thread. So, let’s get at it!

It’s a new Monday, so time for a new entry into the #BatmanvSuperman references the DC lore series. Today, it’s time for the biggest gladiator match in the history of the world. The Batman v Superman scene in the 🧵 below! #RestoreTheSnyderVerse #BvSMondayMood Image
This one is going to be a two-parter. There are so many people that have analyzed homages in this battle that in Part 1 (today) I wanted to share some references that I really like (from others) and add a few myself. ImageImage
Part 2 (next week) will focus on the most relevant part of the scene, when Batman snaps out of his PTSD by Superman’s words about Martha. There is an interesting connection to a DC comic there that deserves its own deep dive. But I won’t say more since, well spoilers 😂.

It’s a new Monday, so time for a new entry into the #BatmanvSuperman references the DC lore series. Today, a very short thread for the scene Tick Tock in the 🧵 below with only one reference! #RestoreTheSnyderVerse #BvSMondayMood Image
Only reference that I have seen mentioned around is regarding Superman talking to Lois, losing faith about humanity momentarily. ImageImageImage
This resembles part of his conversation with the priest in Superman: For Tomorrow (issue #204) where Superman states that his only sin was saving the world. In both comic and media he is hurt because he seem to be losing a loved one (Martha in #BvS, Lois in the comic). ImageImage

It’s a new Monday, so time for a new entry into the #BatmanvSuperman references the DC lore series. Today, it’s time for the scene Helipad Confrontation in the 🧵 below! #RestoreTheSnyderVerse #BvSMondayMood Image
This scene is so special for me. It’s probably my favorite one in the movie, but also, it’s where I get the inspiration for my twitter nickname. I am so happy to be able to unpack different connections to the DC world. So, here we go. Beware (very) long thread incoming! ImageImage
It is very hard for me not to think about Lex Luthor: Man of Steel (from Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo) during this scene. The imagery already is there from Superman flying atop and Lex seeing him from the ground. ImageImageImageImage

It’s a short one today with two references to the last issue of Superman: Birthright (#12). First, the dialogue between Lex and Lois resembles that of the comic. Her trying to show she will expose him, and him shrugging it off. ImageImageImageImage
Even a couple of lines of Lex minimizing disrespectfully Lois are in both movie and comic. ImageImage

It’s a new Monday, so time for a new entry into the #BatmanvSuperman references the DC lore series. Today, I cover the scene The Manor and references to different Batman comics/media in the 🧵 below! #RestoreTheSnyderVerse #BvSMondayMood Image
Broadly speaking this scene relates to the episode “I am the Night” from Batman: The Animated Series and also comic storyline Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne. ImageImage
So, let’s start from the first of these connections. Many people have pointed out that the dialogue between Bruce and Alfred in the movie resembles closely the one in the animated series, especially when they are talking about Bruce fighting criminals.

It’s a new Monday, and today is a special one since I get to do a thread on one of my favorite #BatmanvSuperman scenes (The Mountain) and how it references the broad DC lore. Everything about it and a small analysis in the 🧵 below! #RestoreTheSnyderVerse #BvSMondayMood Image
In this scene, Clark visits a mountain where he talks with his father’s ghost about what he’s going through. Importantly, to dissect this scene a good starting point is thinking about Zack Snyder’s words about it (thanks to @hell0gary for the edit of the image). Image
In a way it’s all about the evolution of the Fortress of Solitude. Interestingly, the first part of Zack Snyder’s Superman arc (#ManofSteel) depicts a “sort of” traditional fortress, the scout ship in the arctic. A big palace where he talks to his birth parent, Jor-El. ImageImageImage

After a small break I am back! It’s a new Monday, so time for a new entry to the #BatmanvSuperman references to the DC lore series. Today is the turn for the Burn Him scene in the 🧵 below! #RestoreTheSnyderVerse #BvSMondayMood Image
Thought this one was going to be a short 🧵 with a couple of references. But as usual I went on a rabbit hole following one part of the scene and wanted to share some of it here. So, let's start with a reference, the protests that again look like Grant Morrison’s Action Comics #3 ImageImage
The actual signs in the protest are what led to me to the rabbit hole trying to find out more about them. Found from @manofsteelanswers webpage a BTS pic with all the signs. Interesting choices so I think it’s worth talking about some of them (manofsteelanswers.com/tag/batman-v-s…). Image

It’s a new Monday, so time for a new entry to the #BatmanvSuperman references to the DC lore series. Today is the turn for the Metamorphosis scene in the 🧵 below! #RestoreTheSnyderVerse #BvSMondayMood Image
In this one Lex Luthor uses his blood and General Zod’s body to start creating the desecration without name. In this one there is not a particular reference but wanted to highlight different things about these scenes that are similar to comics. ImageImage
First, Lex Luthor is trying to create a creature to kill Superman. This has happened a lot in the comics, especially for different versions of Bizarro. For instance, in Post-Crisis, in The Man of Steel #5 he creates a clone of Superman that ends up becoming Bizarro (a creature). ImageImageImage

It’s a new Monday, so time for a new entry to the #BatmanvSuperman references to the DC lore series. Today is the turn for Preparation Montage and Photograph scene in the thread below! #RestoreTheSnyderVerse #BvSMondayMood Image
Most of this one is going to revolve around Bruce training. Three important references. First, we have some to Detective Comics #33. One from the training itself and Bruce lifting weights. ImageImage
But also, in that comic Bruce Wayne is a master scientist with black specialist glasses working on a green chemical. Interestingly, this specific comic has been already references several times in #BatmanvSuperman so this might not be a coincidence. ImageImageImageImage

It’s a new Monday, so time for a new entry to the #BatmanvSuperman references to the DC lore series. Today is the turn for Unlocking the Scout Ship scene in the 🧵 below! #RestoreTheSnyderVerse #BvSMondayMood Image
Very classical moment for Lex as he interacts with Kryptonian technology and try to unlock all its power and knowledge. Love this small scene and Jesse Eisenberg acting nails so much Lex’s fears but also hunger for knowledge and power. ImageImageImage
Of course, this happens several times across different media (comics, TV shows, movies) in Superman stories. Wanted to share three of those that I thought had some significance. We start with the first time ever Lex uses Kryptonian tech in the comics in Superman #74 (from 1951). ImageImageImage

New week and time for a new entry to #BatmanvSuperman references to the DC lore. We get to one of the most climactic scenes in the movie, The Capitol. Several homages into this one in the 🧵 below! #RestoreTheSnyderVerse #BvSMondayMood. Image
We open up with Superman arriving to the Capitol building with people with all sorts of messages. People hating on him others worshiping him. Very reminiscent of the cover of Action Comics #3 in the New 52. And also, of The Amazing New Adventures of Superman #24. ImageImageImage
Interestingly, #BvS shows people that hate him but also people that worship him to an extreme. A polarized society where even people that worship him ask too much of him. To be a god, a savior.

It’s a new Monday so time for a new entry to #BatmanvSuperman to the broad DC lore. Today we have the scene Batmobile Chase marking the grand entrance of Batman classical vehicle. All about the references in this scene in the thread below! #RestoreTheSnyderVerse Image
I want to start first by referencing a comic that has tons of inspiration from Batfleck in the Snyderverse in a #ZackSnyderistheblueprint moment. This run is The Batman’s Grave which came out in 2019. Image
Right out of the bat (pun intended) we can observe that the Batmobile in this comic is heavily inspired by the one created for #BatmanvSuperman. ImageImageImageImage

It’s a new Monday with a new entry to #BatmanvSuperman references to the broad DC lore. Today is all about the scene White Portuguese in the 🧵 below, with a mini analysis at the end! #RestoreTheSnyderVerse. Image
First, we have Ben Affleck’s Bruce Wayne which looks similar (once more) to Bruce Wayne in Batman: The Animated Series (I think @KnightFleck spotted this one). ImageImage
We also have Bruce and Alfred’s discussion on Bruce war on Superman (with the famous Dick Cheney’s quote). While not exactly the same, Alfred is the voice of reason when Batman and Demian Wayne fight in Injustice 2 #22 and #23. ImageImageImageImage

It’s the start of a new week, so time for a new entry on #BatmanvSuperman references to the DC lore. Today is Part 4 in the Knightmare scene which will involve various references to different comics. All of them in the 🧵 below! #RestoreTheSnyderVerse Image
Let’s first start with Batman’s Knightmare outfit. This resembles Batman: The Cult #4 images. But this has also become a #ZackSnyderistheblueprint moment as it was used in Batman: The Detective #1 and Batman #34 (Rebirth) recently. ImageImageImageImage
The parademon design (and Apokoliptian worlds) also has a hint of Kingdom Come designs. ImageImageImage

“The 2017 theatrical cut was an act of vandalism,” #JusticeLeague screenwriter Chris Terrio says. “@ZackSnyder may be too much of a gentleman to say that, but I’m not.” An exclusive Q&A: vntyfr.com/bzWPTcR
Breaking five years of silence, the screenwriter gets brutally honest about how the theatrical releases of his DC films Batman v Superman and Justice League turned into total fiascos.
Terrio says #BvS and #JusticeLeague were undermined by corporate meddling, poor franchise planning, and tone-deaf studio decisions that opted for expensive VFX scenes over coherent storytelling.
