It is unfortunate that a whole lot of lies, propaganda & hate mongering is being spread against #CitizenshipAmmendmentBill2019 because of which many parts of India is burning. And by whom? Politicians (who failed to counter it in Parliament), Lutyen's Media & Religious leaders
1. Deliberately CAB is confused with NRC. NRC hasn't been introduced by Govt & CAB includes naturalisation of RELIGIOUSLY PERSECUTED minoritiy refugees of adjoining MUSLIM STATES: Afg, Pak, Ban (Hindu, Sikh, Parsi, Jain, Christians) as Indian citizens who've come before 31 Dec'14
Date of 2014 is chosen as the min residence requirement for naturalisat'n has been relaxed from 11-5 yrs.
2. Muslim refugees have been excluded as the state religion of Afg, Pak, Ban is Islam & have to follow general process for citizenship as they're not religiously persecuted.

@rahulelectra @onlyonenetra @BesuraTaansane Few inputa. Pls make your own conslusion after that.

1. BDs have been pouring in unabated since 75 yrs. Rest of India, this process stopped in 1948

2. BDs grabbed lands, fenced properties, burned down local Kachari Hindu communities and renders them homeless.

Thread#1
@rahulelectra @onlyonenetra @BesuraTaansane 2.(Contd) Kacharis are Local Hindu Tribes with their kingdom in Cachar and they find mention in Mahabharata. They opened their homes to the BDs on humanitarian grounds. BDs squatted, grabbed their lands, killed their cattles, raped their women, maimed their children.

Thread #2
@rahulelectra @onlyonenetra @BesuraTaansane 2. (Contd ) Today, Kacharis are a mere 25 families left in Cachar. All are BDs (Hindus + Muslims).

3. Congi Govt allowed this to happen. Vote Bank Politics

4. Indira Gandhi brought IMDT Act making Citizens liable to prove that X is a BD

So what is the #CitizenshipAmmendmentBill2019 and what are it’s implications?

CAB is an amendment to an existing bill— the Citizenship Bill 1955. The bill was previously amended in 1987, 1992, 2003 and 2005.

The Bill lays down four ways that someone can be an Indian citizen.
1. by birth— there are various caveats to this and true citizenship by birth is provided only to those born between 1950 to 1987. For those born after Jul 1987, the origin and in case of those born after 2004, legal status, of parents matter. Being born in India is insufficient.
By Descent: For those born outside India, but with either of their parents from India (it was just father for those born between 1950-1992). Post 2004, different rules apply.

Thread:
I am not religious. I struggle with faith. But I am a Bengali Muslim. That's my political identity. As researcher in Ahmedabad working with 2002 riot survivors, and in life in general my political subjectivity was shaped around the lived experience of this identity.
There is a role of my caste and class location in forming this political identity as well. Many can ignore but I can't escape it.
Today the Indian government passed the Citizenship Amendment Bill, which is rightly compared with Nuremburg race laws enacted by Hitler. #CAB2019
Though there is very little comparison on account of history of suffering, but after this new law 'Bengali Muslim' identity is going to be the most vulnerable community in the Indian nation-state after Kashmiri Muslims.
