On Sunday, police smashed their way into the main library of #JamiaMilliaIslamia, firing tear gas shells as terrified students barricaded doors and hid inside bathrooms to protect themselves.

“It was a night of horrors," one student said.

Video footage shot by a student inside the library and reviewed by Reuters shows dozens of young students - including several women - scrambling for cover, cowering beneath desks, and jumping over metal and broken glass dividers as they attempted to flee.
My colleagues @sankalp_sp @aftabahmed00 and @zebatweets also spoke to several students trapped inside the campus to piece together what happened.

“There were continuous sounds of tear gas,” one student told us. “They were just beating any students they saw so cruelly.”

The internet shutdowns across the country are nothing but another means to stifle dissenting voices and allow misinformation from state institutions.
The last we checked, the Constitution doesn't endorse this. Image
We have seen the repercussions of this in Kashmir, and we can't possibly emphasise the atrocity of it all enough. Image
Sharing an important thread by the @project_polis to stay prepared in these times of the #CABProtests.
Love, solidarity and power to the people!

Sorry, but unfortunately, my state Kerala export terrorists to Syria & Afghanistan. Now has started exporting Islamic activists to national capital & other cities.

Ladeeda Sakhaloon, the new poster girl of @BDUTT et al., is from 70-80% Muslim populated region of North Kerala.
Ladeeda is an active worker of Student Islamic Organisation (SIO), which was refuge for activists of SIMI since it was banned. After studying Economics in Kerala & Sociology from Annamalai, she joined Jamia with 'purpose'. Nothing, but to serve SIO which has Headquarters in Jamia.
Her entry into #JamiaProtests & projection as Alaa Salah of India by Muslim radicals (plus liberals) was all orchestrated. This earlier FB post of her shows how she fancied to become such an icon. Even @BDUTT interview must also have been pre-planned.

We reject the idea that our citizenship shall be decided by draconian, oppressive and bigoted laws like this. While we continue to fight against the perils of @UIDAI, we shall also fight against the CAA, NPR and NRC - laws that curtail a person's rights based on one's identity.
The violence unleashed by the police and other state sponsored units at the #CABProtests over the last couple of days and the apathy of the SC shall not deter us. We extend our support to the students and all others who have had to bear the brunt of this failure of democracy.
Also, in simpler terms, as @databaazi puts it:
"Aadhaar = NPR = CAA = NRC.
The arithmetic of dystopia."

It is not a question of a Hindu Muslim. Home Minister Amit Shah has said that the NRC will be made at the national level. What will happen in it? Will only Muslim people get hurt?

1/15
No date, no process has been decided yet. We have only the experience of Assam, where 13 lakh Hindus and 6 lakh Muslims / Adivasis could not prove their citizenship. The question is, why not?

2/15
Because everyone had to submit documents, documents before 1971 for NRC as evidence.
These evidences were:
1. Proof of the 1971 Voter List Man's Own or Mother's Name; OR
2. In 1951, ie code number of parents / grandparents etc. found in the NRC after partition.

My own position on #CAA2019 has been - it is sound in principle (read @pratimbose article👇) and nothing wrong constitutionally (as explained by none other than Harish Salve). But, I anticipate serious issues in implementation. Therefore, other than the #NorthEast #CABProtests /2
#CABPolitics e.g. in #Assam where it is a live issue (but religion agnostic as they are against all immigrants changing the demographics of the region) for the rest of India it is largely an academic issue. Therefore, #CABProtests in the name of “secularism” ill-conceived 3/n
3/n Besides, #CAA2019 has been passed by an act of Parliament and not by any Presidential Diktat. If it has to be undone - it cannot be through violence and vandalism. Those upholding the Constitutional values - must also adopt democratic means and not promote mobocracy #CAB 4/n

These #CABProtests riots have three main actors.
1) #Islamist groups frustrated since #Modi won a 2nd term earlier this year.
2) #Communists & #Naxalites frustrated with the irrelevance of their ideology globally.
3) The #Congress looking to regain #political traction.
Most of the players in these three actors are being handled invisibly via strings heading into 10JP & Islamabad . As @AatriTikoo says intelligence units have known of this for long , Naxalite groups have been talking of 2020 for long.
Another actor will soon join in.
Remember the #Sikh referendum issue. This will tie into these protests in a matter of days . Here's hoping @capt_amarinder can control that tide.
He's one of the last good men left in the Left .

The Citizenship Amendment Bill and NRC Will Together Destroy Our Country

Muslims will bear the brunt, of course, but India’s vast Hindu population will also suffer collateral damage. And all our rights as citizens will have been forever eroded.

#CABProtests
The Citizenship Amendment Bill to grant citizenship to non-Muslim illegal immigrants will be the top electoral issue in 2021 West Bengal and Assam assembly elections. The BJP is hoping to wrest power in West Bengal and a second term in Assam.
The CAB legally just opens a window for acceptance of a group of illegal immigrants as India citizens on the basis of their claim that they fled their parent countries - Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan due to religious persecution.
