Sometimes the goofiest pictures make for the best ones in my eyes.

I have this thing against making photos that seem to fit a template. Cat portraits and portraits in general often have this failing. I must confess...
...that maybe up to half the photos I take of my cats fit the standard portrait template for animals where the subject's complete face is looking straight at you from a very close distance. Some days in some cat groups...
...it can look like a high school yearbook taken by a single professional photographer. I know my stuff is often sloppy and I like it that way. My cats are distinctive, worth breaking some rules for. John Ruskin would have...

I took several photos of the cats using a timer and a camera placed on the floor. I was pleased with the results overall, the long vanishing points, the interesting postures, etc. My main tool for wrangling them was a laser pointer proving that you can herd cats.

As promised, the cats arrived today along with a photo of me hiding my face. I have enough photos for maybe a week or two.

Sometimes I put up a blurry, out of focus photo because I like the composition. That is the case of one I took of Aphrodite.

Lynn was sick today and avoiding me by staying in the loft. I had issues of my own with dizziness that I remedied with a nap. Neither of us is wheezing, so it shouldn't be Covid.

I ran into a jerk on the IRC channel who annoyed that he had Covid. When I asked him questions...

Lately I have been struggling to get useful photos through a combination of multiple images plus cropping. I had an instructor who believed that you should always strive to get the shot right inside the frame that you have and never crop...
...but as I entered the real world of photography, I learned that many professional photographers left plenty of space between the subject and the margins. They then cropped to the image that they had always wanted. Today's picture of Aphrodite...
...demanded cropping: otherwise I would have splashed the eye of my audience with lots of useless clutter from my house. We don't keep a clean house suitable for taking portraits at a moment's whim. I must confess that we still have...

A #Flickr friend of mine heard my cries of frustration and put me onto a means of "training" my followers by eliminating those who weren't commenting and rewarding those who did. My firewall...
...balked at installing the program that I needed to review my 1400 followers behavior, but I managed to find a way to install it nonetheless. When I am done, I will have less than 75 contacts which is a manageable level. If I...
...delete someone who reactivates themself later, I can add them back as they comment or fave my photos. The system is manageable and easy to monitor. All I will need to do is check who faves and comments each day and run the program once a month.

I must say that the reason why I like cats is that they don't blame every quarrel in our relationship on my #mentalillness or at least I don't spend time worrying that they do. When I deal with people -- especially those who know -- this fear...
...dominates my thoughts. I know many people think I am not very smart. My wife debates the truth of this, but I feel better if I assume that other people are smarter even if the evidence is that they are not. The cats don't care of rather I can't...
...see evidence that they do. People give themselves away all the time. You can see it in subtle twitches of their face. They aren't that good at hiding their feelings. I had to learn to read faces. I had to know how to distinguish the sociopath from the narcissist....

Two subjects tend to occupy my photo life lately: #selfies and #cats. The reason for this is simple: the models are readily available and I am not shy about approaching them. The cats have a deep seated fear of the camera because of the flash...
...so I have to be clever about capturing them. One of my cameras has a flash free night setting. The cats can't tell the difference, so my best schemes are to take multiple shots or use a timer. There is no flash when I use the timer so they don't cringe.

I'd rather talk about #cats than politics tonight. The worst Tallahassee does is knock things off the counter and the table. You don't see her violating the First Amendment or the Posse Comitatus Act. Can keep her and Aphrodite amused with a laser pointer. Life is good.
For those who don't know, we have three cats: the ancient Boadicea, the naughty Tallahassee, and her sister Aphrodite. The sisters are calico Hemingway cats, a breed in the making known for their extra toes and connection to the Nobel Prize-winning author.

I'm clutching for subjects, visiting @YouTube for videos describing projects you can perform if you are quarantined. Today I went out to go to the pharmacy and then find a place for a couple of dozen shots but my car battery was dead.
Lynn drove me to the pharmacy, but I refrained from asking her to drive me places. That project awaits my battery being jumped today or tomorrow. I'll need to spend an hour driving around so that should present me with plenty of opportunities.
I think I can stop boring you with #selfies for a few days, but only after I present this one last one which is an experiment in motion blur as well as the classic #blackandwhite portrait:
