We're calling for a comprehensive workforce strategy as part of a new proposal for universal, quality, affordable and accessible early learning and child care.

When fully implemented, the proposal, released Friday at AlbertasFuture.ca would put at least 42,500 people back to work and would increase Alberta’s GDP by nearly $6 billion.
The single most effective economic strategy we can implement to get people back to work and grow our economy, is to offer universal, affordable early learning child care.

The Persons Case Scholarship was launched in 1979, commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Persons Case when Albertans Nellie McClung, Irene Parlby, Emily Murphy, Louise McKinney and Henrietta Muir Edwards won their fight for some women to be appointed to the Canadian Senate.
The scholarship awarded $2,500 grants to 40 post-secondary male and female students who were either working to advance gender equality through their academic work or training for a field that was traditionally under-represented by their gender.

“It isn’t much of a choice when you’re faced with the decision to quit your job, or protect your family,” said @JanisIrwin, NDP Critic for Women’s and LGBTQ2S+ Issues.
“Ignoring the reality of thousands of women across Alberta threatens our economic recovery and Jason Kenney needs to take this more seriously.”

Albertans need to hear a bold vision and a real plan that gets everyday people back to work, and sets Alberta’s economy up for a recovery now, and a stronger economy tomorrow.

It’s a "fiscal reckoning" for Albertans, but a party for profitable corporations and Jason Kenney’s rich friends and insiders.
Without a plan for child care, Jason Kenney is setting Alberta up for failure. Women in particular, have been hit hardest with job losses and unpaid care-giving during the pandemic. Albertans cannot get back to work without affordable, accessible, and quality child care.

A nationwide survey shows UCP cuts, and lack of support for the child care system through the pandemic has ranked Alberta’s response among the worst in the country.

“This report proves that what we’ve been saying is true - there is no legitimate economic recovery plan without a plan for childcare."
- @pancholi_rakhi
This is a complete failure by Jason Kenney and the UCP to support families and the child care sector through unprecedented times.

Here are some findings from last Friday’s @StatCan_en June jobs report tracking women’s economic recovery. I will be posting a Research Note on “Behind the Numbers” shortly #canfem 1/8
Since April, women have recouped roughly one-third of Feb-Apr employment losses (35.8%). That’s an increase of 550,000 jobs since April. Core-aged women have posted larger gains than youth & older women. The recovery among men is more advanced across the board 2/8 Image
A large group of women have left the labour force. Among core-age workers, the proportion of women “not in the labour force” was down from a high of 22.2% in April, but still 8.3 % points higher than in Feb 3/8 Image

Sunday is #IWD2020, and a time to reflect on Canada’s record on gender equality. #canlab #canfem 1/6
This year Canada ranked 19th on the @wef ’s #gendergap20 report, up from our poor showing in 2016 (35th), down from 16th last year. Canada’s young women are the most educated generation in history, but they are still hitting the wall in the world of work and politics 2/6
Women working full-time are still paid only 81 cents for every dollar men take home. The gap is even larger for racialized women and Indigenous women, who make 60% and 57% of what non-racialized men earn #canlab #canfem 3/6 behindthenumbers.ca/2019/03/05/dat…

Sunday is #IWD2020, and a time to reflect on this #onpoli government’s record on women’s work. #canlab #canfem
The @fordnation government had targeted public sector workers. Public sector work is mostly women’s work; women are 62% of public sector workers. @CCPA research shows that the racialized gender pay gap is smaller in the public sector. policyalternatives.ca/publications/r…
Bill 124 legislates limitations on public sector compensation increases to a maximum of 1%. As @ontarionurses points out, this legislation will disproportionately have a negative impact on women.

RE History of the anti-abortion/anti-choice lobby & support it receives from members of parliament

I'm advised that video of Conservative MP's has now been censored

It's unfortunate the anti-choice lobby would behave this way & attempt to deny #PressFreedom in #CDNmedia

But I've spent the night backing up & archiving what evidence remains & I retain copies of most items if you wish to inquire for them

I believe in a fair debate, so I ventured to restore the most concerning video

1 of 80) Please bear with me, because the following is filled with plenty of foul language & I'm taking off the professional mask to speak with you as a human being. I've had enough & I've hit my limit, putting up with all the #MeToo bullshit in #CDNpoli, #ONpoli, & #CDNmedia
2) For the past 2 years, you've been ruining my #FamilyDay because the lot of you picked this holiday to shove an alleged child molester down my throat. It's the ultimate in sick behaviour & your choice of holiday is astounding, to champion the cause of #ChildPorn in #CDNpoli
3) What's worse is that forcing me to say those words actually makes me appear like I'm out-to-lunch. Your outrageous acts of gaslighting, censorship, & obstruction, have made it impossible for anyone to tell the most important #MeToo story in #CDNpoli currently
