#NeoclassicalEconomics is partly to blame for the serious global urban problem of air pollution. Incredibly, the CBA (cost-benefit-analysis) when applied to climate mitigation, excludes air pollution. Their reasoning is that air pollution needs its own instruments to solve it.
This is absurd because the CO2 and the air pollutants are joint products of combustion. Lead additives were also in the mix, when the oil refining industry knew perfectly well that lead poisoning seriously damages child development.
In fact the benefits of reducing non-CO2 are very substantial and compared to those from reducing CO2 emissions, immediate. In many localities reducing non-CO2 air pollution should be the primary priority for mitigation.

The Tabloids don’t want to run this narrative. Clichés work. People, without wealth or financial resilience are far more likely to get dragged into a Criminal Court, a Family Court, or an Employment Tribunal.
Then, they’re not likely to encounter a ‘fat cat lawyer’ but a junior barrister and/or a high street solicitor, from a small to medium size practice. We’re not talking Baroness Shackleton or Lady Ward. 3/
@BarCouncilChair I wish Mark all the best at the start of his tenure. He will need fortitude & resolution. Tact & diplomacy has accomplished very little in the past. The objective is to save the #CriminalBar. That can’t be done unless we remain unified with #CriminalSolicitors
We must never cut any deal at their expense, & we must stand shoulder to shoulder with them. Any Chair of The Bar or #CBA will be judged harshly if they do not screw their courage to the sticking place. Yes, the ironic source of that quotation is known to me.
If Government refuses to engage in negotiations aimed at averting the collapse of the #CriminalJusticeSystem, & restoring the crumbling Court Estate, the Bar must take unified action.
#Thread (a very long one) Yesterday, I visited the new Englewood STEM High School. Remember the close 4 high schools and open 1 high school deal #MRE hand-picked BOE (not to be confused w/ #MLL unelected BOE) approved in 2018 against community wishes? Yes, that one!
2/ Driving up to the school I saw bleachers, a football field, a track, & then the modern structure that houses 400+ freshman students. Nice.
3/ Tho, I couldn’t help but wonder where all of the sophomores/juniors/seniors who live in Englewood attend school especially bc #CPS is proposing to close Hope & the ongoing battle to resource & support Harper properly.
