Fear & Loathing in Alberta: the Big Fat Lie of Election 2019 THREAD #GentThreads #abpoli #ableg #cdnpoli #yeg #yyc
First of all, thank you Edmonton, for being the intellectual & moral hub of this entire province. The rest of us, evidently, were all too ready to elect to power a team already revealed as white supremacists, homophobes, misogynists, frauds, criminals & climate deniers /2 #abpoli

#YellowVestsCanada members are upset that they can't share the video of the #NewZealandTerroristAttack, so much so that it's a government conspiracy to protect the videos credibility.
@facebook allows this.

More comments. The black rectangles are blocking still captures of the video. You bet your ass I reported that.
These comments stuck out for me as particularly gross and heinous, so I looked into them a little further:

My usually-accurate friend @VassyKapelos mentioned today, in the course of a thoughtful @PnPCBC interview with Ontario Minister @GregRickford regarding Bill C-69 that “it’s not like pipelines were getting built, nor were they under the last government...”

The statement was promptly corrected by both Minister and host, narrowing the reference to pipelines “to tidewater”. But as this comment is often heard (and a pet peeve for those of us who work on such projects), perhaps some data would be appreciated all round.

In 2005, just before PM @StephenHarper took office, Canadian oil exports to USA averaged 1.6 million barrels a day.
In 2015, his last year in office, 🇨🇦 oil exports to 🇺🇸 averaged 3.2 million barrels a day.
In other words, they DOUBLED during his tenure.

What's clear to me is that the NEB has denied this motion because the Trudeau government specifically excluded climate change impacts from a full review of this pipeline. Thread 1/
They say they are climate champions but they won't review climate impacts and they are desperate to build more fossil fuel infrastructure. This decision exposes the governments climate change agenda as political and not based on science. 2/
In drafting our motion we consulted with @IPCC_CH scientists who clearly stated that new fossil fuel infrastructure and the expansion of the oilsands is inconsistent with a the Paris agreement and an ambition of limiting warming to 1.5C 3/

If journalists want to understand what frustrates environmental scientists nothing better demonstrates what is troubling than the news story I have seen re-tweeted numerous times today. It typifies what is wrong with environmental journalism. #bcpoli #abpoli #cdnpol @sjmuir
Here is the story it addresses a complaint about river crossing work conducted on the #transmountain pipeline. It starts with an overwrought headline: "Trans Mountain pipeline work destroyed salmon habitat, scientist says" theprovince.com/news/local-new… #bcpoli #abpoli #cdnpol 2/
Pardon me @theprovince the same story appeared in the @globeandmail and other media outlets.

Now let's see what the story entails: approximately 17 m of river affected in an aquifer system that includes literally thousands of kilometers of river area. #bcpoli #abpoli #cdnpol 3/
