C/S means many things to many people.

Over the years, I have lost count of different interpretations

C-section- a surgical procedure through the anterior abdomen and uterus to deliver the baby, placenta & its membrane.

Can be elective; planned by you and your doctor or emergency ; as an urgent intervention to avoid or treat complications.

Situations where you shouldn't reject C/S
1. Placenta previa- the placenta won't let baby pass through for vaginal delivery

2. Twins; 1st twin is coming with buttock

3. You have had 2 or more C/S before.

4. If you have had fibroid/ any surgery on your uterus before.

1/1 We cld turn to the literature for guidance?? 👉 This team found that the lack of exposure to #vaginal microbiota is unlikely to be a major contributing factor to neonatal dysbiosis...: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/29780… ImageImage
2/2 ...Instead, indication for #Cesarean delivery, intrapartum antibiotic administration, absence of labor, differences in #breastfeeding behaviors, #maternal obesity + gestational age were major drivers of the Cesarean delivery microbial phenotype.
Plus if studies like this hold - which suggest that components of the infant #microbiome develop in the #womb -the the data generated by these upcoming “vaginal seeding”’trials may very well become meaningless: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/29780… ImageImage

Thread on importance of #LSCS #Cesarean

You can ask doubts here

Let us start with basics

What is Maternal Mortality Rate : It is the number of pregnant women who die during child birth

It depends on
Mother's Health
Plus
Availability of facilities
In ten lakh deliveries
50000 women can die
Or
10000 women can die
Or
600 women can die
Or
100 women can die

If no Cesarean is done
Out of 10 lakh pregancies
50000 women die (5 percent death and 95 percent survival)
This was the situation till 1970s When Deliveries were conducted at home by skilled birth attendants

You may know stories of home Deliveries those days

In 1970s
Facilities for doing cesarean were made widely available and the number of women dying dropped drastically
