1/ A carelessly incurred fine, effectively ignoring a surging ISWAP, the CCB’s sudden impotence, and a judicial bailout for an under fire ruling party, Nigeria has become the land where the unnecessary is king.
2/ The drama between @MobilePunch and @CCBNigeria represents the latest indication of the current administration’s selective commitment to the rule of law.
3/ The irony of @CCBNigeria who responded to a letter against CJN #Onnoghen - an official who is no favourite of @MBuhari - in a matter of hours while ignoring a legal request for information that could potentially tar @AsoRock’s leading lights is inescapable.

Last Friday, @MBuhari suspended the Chief Justice of On Friday, 25 January, 2019, President Muhammadu Buhari suspended the Chief Justice of @SupremeCourtNg, Justice Walter #Onnoghen, pending the completion of his trial at @CCBNigeria's tribunal.
@MBuhari immediately swore in Justice Ibrahim Tanko Mohammed as the acting CJN.

In a swift reaction, @NigBarAssoc issued a statement unequivocally rejecting and condemning “this attempted coup against the Nigerian Judiciary” and fixed an emergency meeting for today.
@SPNigeria & and Speaker of @HouseNGR, both condemned @NGRPresident’s move.

It is worthy to note that to legally remove the CJN, the other 2 arms of govt, @AsoRock & @nassnigeria have to be in agreement on the issue, so a 2/3 majority is needed at @NGRSenate.

In a week where Nigeria’s government outmanoeuvred trade unions but inevitably booted the ball up the pitch, questions still arose about its budget.

On the minimum wage palaver, the key point to note is that @AsoRock has been unable to fund salary payments at the ₦18,000/month level from its revenues, and most states need to be bailed out periodically at that amount.
An analysis by @BusinessDayNg projected that an acceptance of ₦30,000 minimum wage (a 66% rise) by @MBuhari will cost @AsoRock an additional ₦1.25 trillion annually, a move which renders the proposed #budget2019 obsolete, and plunges #Nigeria deeper into the debt conundrum.

"Let anybody come and confront me publicly in the National Assembly. What have they been doing? Some of them have been there for 10 years. What have they been doing?"  -  @MBuhari, 22/5/18
Today while his VP was in #Benue attending the funerals on a number of our countrymen who were killed by suspected herdsmen in the ongoing #PastoralConflict, our President was busy making nonsense of @ProfOsinbajo's efforts by running his mouth in the villa at a campaign event.
While it is common knowledge that Buhari doesn't really care about the average Nigerian, and is more concerned with returning to the Villa next year, it boggles the mind that the man keeps undermining those who could have worked with him to actually give him a decent legacy.
