Don't wait for other hill towns to undergo the same challenges Joshimath is experiencing right now. Joshimath serves as an example, and we must take note of its lessons. Alternative energy sources can be found , but it is impossible to model a place with with enormous historical
values , a place where we were born and raised can't be remodeled once gone @pushkardhami @Anoopnautiyal1 @PMOIndia @narendramodi #Joshimath #JoshimathIsSinking #Joshimathcrisis

Geological, historical & geophysical observations show that the entire Himalayan arc is poised to produce a sequence of great #earthquake. Human catastrophe likely to be unprecedented. The abstract is scary to the point. @yamunajiye #Uttarakhand #Himalayas pubs.geoscienceworld.org/ssa/srl/articl… Image
It is estimated that due to the average rate of convergence between the Indian and Asian plates, every year adds additional strain on the Main Himalayan Thrust (MHT) that needs an Mw =7.3 #earthquake for release. @yamunajiye @RaajSonak
As per a review of earthquakes in the #Himalayas in past 1000 years; over the past 500 years, there haven’t been enough big earthquakes (Mw = 8 and above) to ease the accumulated strain in large sections of the Himalayan arc.

French Space Agency @CNES has imaged the #Chamoli disaster.
Scientists including @sgascoin @EtienneBerthie2 have researched the images.
They concluded that a massive rockslope failure released rock & ice that created a devastating flood in the Rishiganga river valley.

These images were captured on Feb 9 and reveal a 550-meter long rupture line.
This is where the rock and ice got detached from the northern face of Ronti, a saddle between the grand Himalayan mountains of Nanda Ghunti and Trishul.

Satellite imagery before/after the flood points to widespread snow melt in only 5 days as per @sgascoin
These and other images have led to the rockslope failure conclusion.
Indian scientists are also of the same opinion.

What's happening in #Uttarakhand is a result of absolute ignorance from state. The residents of Reni Village in #Chamoli district had filled a PIL in 2019 stating the environmentally disastrous activities by the private power company building the #RishiGangaPowerProject

The company also used explosives in the area which falls within the sensitive Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve.
As a result, the wild animals fled the area.
Today, the state is witnessing a natural calamity which is a consequence of neglect.
