@shrikanth_krish The risk is not as strong a function of the mission itself as it is of the knowledge of the people/organisation embarking on it and the resources available to them.

The mission was high risk because:
@shrikanth_krish a) it was the first operational flight of GSLV Mk3 (not a terribly proven vehicle, new cryo stage)

b) limited 4000 kg carrying capacity meant less on-board fuel and reliance on complex Hohmann transfer orbits (these are serious non-linear dynamics problems!)
@shrikanth_krish c) less payload capacity also means less features (like terrain mapping cameras, data links etc) to pack in / less system redundancies / no fallback burners or engine capacity

d) finally it is just sheer damn luck, the unknown unknown that nobody can prepare for
