I’m at #Manchester Crown Court for the continuing trial of the nurse Lucy #Letby. She denies murdering 7 babies at the Countess of #Chester Hospital in 2015/16. She also denies the attempted murder of 10 other babies. Updates here, @BBCNWT and BBC on line.
Consultant paediatrician Dr Elizabeth Newby is describing how she treated an alleged victim, Child D. She says D as born in good condition but needed help with breathing shortly afterwards. By the evening she needed to have a tube in her windpipe to help….
…but by the next morning D was well enough for the breathing tube to be removed. D was able to breathe on her own in air. Dr Newby “felt it was likely that there was an element of infection” as D’s mothers waters broke early and there was a delay in her having a C section birth

(1/14) ImageImage
Dies ist, was Zulene von der Bürgerinitiative #Chester Residents Concerned for Quality Living unserem @Bundeskanzler dazu zu sagen hat. (3/x)

(1/x) Image
#Chester ist eine arme Stadt. Hier leben viele People of Color.

Lots of places in #NovaScotia were named for their connections to mining – but #GoldRiver is NOT one of them!
#Gold was discovered in Gold River, #LunenburgCounty, in September 1861 by Daniel Dimmock of nearby #Chester.

However, #GoldRiver is believed to have been named after a Mr. Gould, an early settler, and it’s original name was Gould River. The name was changed to Gold River before #gold was discovered there.

The area produced 7610 ounces of #gold between 1881-1940 and today it is beautiful natural space and a bunch of homes on Lacey Mines Road.

The first confirmed discovery of #gold in #NovaScotia was made in 1858 at #Mooseland. However, there is reason to believe that gold was found in #NS prior to then - even if in some cases people were unaware of what they had discovered!

An 1868 book by Alexander Heatherington called “A Practical Guide for Tourists, Miners and Investors, and all Persons interested in the Development of the #Gold Fields of Nova Scotia” discusses examples of potential earlier discoveries.

Gold may have been sighted as early as 1578 when explorer Sir Humphrey Gilbert was given a patent by Queen Elizabeth to search for #gold and silver in the New World. The patent reserved 20% of any discoveries for the Crown.

Thread about opening up public spaces that today are owned and closed by the Church of England. This may be of interest to you, as a general reader, also to @GuyShrubsole & @RosamundUrwin & @RamblersGB.

It focuses on a local case study in Chester but it could apply anywhere. 1/X
The big green patch is Deans Field in Chester, named after the Dean of Chester Cathedral. It is by far the largest green space inside Chester's historic City Walls.

Many people live inside the walls. They used to come to the field to picnic, jog, play footie, cricket, etc.

A few years ago Chester Cathedral added an extra set of steps off the City walls to Deans Field. Chester Cathedral have committed publicly to increasing public access to this field in the past under a planning application.

Instead @ChesterCath edral have closed it off.

On Saturday we sent our volunteers out to the Cross in #Chester and to Ellesmere Port to talk to the constituents of @justinmadders too. We wanted to ask whether Halloween Brexit would be a Trick or Treat. THREAD
Additionally our message in Ellesmere Port included a discussion relating to the NO-Deal related job losses at Vauxhall expected if Boris Johnson gets his way. In #Chester we want to know if people would support a #RemainAlliance
Meanwhile @EuropeWeaver set up their table in Weaverham. They experienced a good deal of gratitude from remainers really pleased to see them out campaigning for a #peoplesvote and #StopBrexit

In order to mark 3 years since the disastrous EU referendum, our group was out campaigning on the streets of #chester for the whole weekend. We wanted to speak to residents and visitors about what #brexit issues were on their mind.
It was a busy weekend as our action weekend coincided with the Midsummer Watch Parade so the streets were very busy with residents and visitors. We had our new banners to show off. Say no to No-deal. We have the best deal.
So what was the vibe? Well I have several conversations reported to me. One couple from Ellesmere Port had voted leave but are #RemainerNow. They made the excellent point that 6 years ago nobody was bothered about the EU so why was it suddenly made a problem?

This week our Saturday campaign centred around the #EUElections2019 but had a Star Wars theme. Our main group was in #Chester at the Cross. Our volunteers just couldn’t help themselves and did a little dressing up. #maythefourthbewithEu
Our boards were appropriately themed, even special stickers and we had our leaflets ready
We had a visit from our MP @ChrisM4Chester who gave us some encouraging words about a #PeoplesVote.

Attention #Chester. The forerunner of the EU (the European Coal and Steel Community) was created on 9 May 1950, and the day is celebrated througout the continent with a series of events and activities. So we are holding an event to mark the day.
We are holding a Walk around the Walls of Chester, please come along with us for this fun and sociable events. As the walls have stood since Roman times, the event is about celebrating our historic attachment to the rest of Europe and our desire to maintain united within the EU.
Also with Brexit still looming and politicians making us look unwelcoming as a nation, we want to present a positive image of our city to our visitors and EU27 citizens who are part of the fabric of our community whether permanently or for a short while & who we value greatly.

So your favourite voice of @chesterforeu is back and I thought I would share some of our best bits from Saturday. \thread

What an amazing day that was.
We started early on coaches trains cars and planes to get to our meeting point
Some of our people were helping going with this fabulous float @EUflagmafia
But most of us assembled together to join the start of the march. Great turn out and each of us were walking for family and friends who could not be there. Here we all are making our way up the road to Park Lane.

Thread on today’s events. #fbpe
Despite a cold day. We had a strong turnout for a big campaigning day in locations around Chester. It took a while to get things warmed up as people were reluctant to stop. But soon it got busier and we had a steady stream of people to the stall.
We had some musical and historical accompaniment whilst we chatted to people around the town. There is often a Roman or two around the place giving historical context to the city of Chester. Help us be able to instruct the town crier that brexit is dead soon. #StopBrexit
The streets got busy as there were stalls celebrating #InternationalWomansDay and here are just 3 of our lovely key members of Chester for Europe enjoying the atmosphere.

Here is my little round up of todays stalls and the views and observations of our volunteers based on the conversations they had. We were in #Chester and #Northwich /thread
We used a new set of questions, which were suggested by @BrexitometerC in order to try and get a wider flavour of views in our local areas for which Brexit answer they prefer. After some discussion we left off question 5 in #Chester and kept it for #Northwich
You would think, listening to much of the brexit coverage and commentators this week, especially that which talks to “normal voters” that we would be inundated with angry people demanding a #crashoutnodeal Brexit on WTO and shouting about democracy
