On this, the 73rd day of #ecmo support for Covid, this young #pedsicu patient was decannulated. The work it took by the team & by him to survive these 73 days was inspirational & emotional. We’re so proud of him. His journey below in🧵 Shared w/ permission from his devoted mom 💪🏻
Part of his physical therapy and treatment plan for Covid was to prone on ecmo. He was our first @ChildrensMercy patient to do this on #ecmo. We developed hand signals so he could control the process every time. #rehablegend 
We helped his mental health with a visit from his 🐶 which is a new #childlife intervention we are doing in the #pedsicu ❤️ @jswallisch @emacksc @DrRissman @LifeandPICU

A metric like the “Kardashian Index” *MAY* be relevant in genome biology where the proportion of basic/translational science is significantly higher and no immediate bedside application for a general practitioner is there. (and I’m making an assumption here) #medtwitter #aua2019
When your #research is relevant primarily to other #scientists who are also writing research papers then citation counts do more wholly reflect the paper’s impact. But in clinical research, it’s different. Bedside clinicians are looking to the literature for guidance & new ideas.
