This is what building bridges between the 🇺🇸 & 🇨🇳 looks like. Last week my wife and I were invited to my daughter’s first grade class room to teach the students about #ChineseNewYear my wife went to @Target and bought each student a lantern making kit and we read the students Image
a book explaining the importance of #ChineseNewYear and also gave each student a 红包🧧 with a piece of chocolate 🍫 inside 😃 my daughter’s teacher was blown away! She was so excited to learn about CNY and promote diversity and understanding of China’s beautiful culture Image
My daughter is the only student in her class born outside of America (she was born in Hong Kong) my daughter’s friends think it is so amazing she was born in China and speaks Chinese. It is such an honor to help people understand #China and promote a better 🇺🇸🇨🇳 relations

1/ From the team that brought you the #BRITastingMenu in 2018 and #USChinaat40 in 2019, we’re recounting Deng Xiaoping’s historic Southern Tour from exactly 30 years ago. COVID has thrown a wrench in our food outing, but we’ve still got our annual #ChineseNewYear thread.
2/ A bit of background: Deng spent the 80s liberalizing China’s economy and stabilizing relations with the United States. Here he is visiting a Texas rodeo in 1979.
3/ His influence was felt around the world, so much so that TIME Magazine named him Person of the Year not once, but twice.

81.01/ Week eighty-one, January 29-February 4, 2022, thread here.

Week 80 below.
81.02/ #MotzeiShabbatMovieNight continues. Another all-time favorite: "Big Trouble in Little China"
81.03/ For #CINvsKC, naturally I would like the Bengals to lose and - if it's not too much to ask - by more than 21 so the Steelers playoff loss doesn't look quite as terrible as it did (at least on paper)

The #YearOfTheOx begins with the #ChineseNewYear on Friday, but for many Asian Americans, this year’s holiday is marked by anxiety and unease, a stark contrast to the usually hopeful attitudes for luck and prosperity. 🧧🧵 by @johannacli:
1/ Ever since the coronavirus pandemic began, for business owners in Chinatown, life has been harder than ever.
2/ “We’re trying to be as hopeful as we can because that’s what the New Year is – having hope that the new year will be better. But realistically, the next three or four months will be very tough for us.” – Patrick Mock, manager of 46 Mott Bakery in NYC
