I want to start a new thread story. Not sure how long it will be and I may use different prompts: #vss365 #vssmagic #vssnature etc etc ... I love reading about legends and folk lore, and in my fantasy writing I often create my own myths. So this will be just a fun exercise...
According to #lore &myths of old, griffins nestled on these cliffs long ago. They swooped down on the unsuspecting;carried them off never to be seen again.
Griffins were not elemental creatures, but air & earth did have dominion over them; their only enemy -fire.

"I helped your troupe avoid #shadow and #gore," said the dark wizard simply, implying that he saved us from the mythical griffins. I gaped at him. "And now for what you promised."

"No," I was careful not to get trapped in words, "I said: after you summon her."

Why it is important to equip day-care centres and #schools with mobile #air #filters: #Aerosol researchers launch position paper!

The scandal about the still insufficient equipment of day-care centres and #schools with #mobile #air #filters suggests that…
decision-makers in the ministries and administrations have still not understood how infections with the #coronavirus occur. The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (#DFG, German Research Foundation) is now countering this
with an information paper that explains the correlations in simple terms.
It clearly states that it is ⚠️#negligent to rely solely on window ventilation in educational institutions.⚠️

1/2 #Vaccines are amazing. They make normal activities - like #carehome and #amateur community #singing #choirs safe. Not just business. So what do you make of @DCMS ban >6 in new guidance? #COVID19 @DCMSArts
2/3 There is probably no easier setting for doing an #outbreak investigation than a #choir. @MakingMusic_UK & others have well developed risk assessments. Ask @BarbaraEifler Around 300k people sing weekly - more than football (more women tho....)
3/3 my earlier analysis on #choirs #sti even more relevant in vaccine era. It's time to realise the benefits of our #vaccination programme for #singing - a low cost and life enhancing activity open to all!… (also listen at 17 mins…)

🎵To understand range and tessitura, look at standard vocal repertoire by master composers, such as An Die Musik by Franz Schubert.

1. The vocal range is an octave plus a perfect forth, much more conservative than the entire possible range of a professional classical singer, which is 2-2 ½ octaves or more. Most art song fits within a vocal range of no more than an octave plus perfect fifth.
2. Schubert doesn’t use the most extreme high or extreme low notes of the singer. The notes fit into the medium low zone of a singer’s range.

Composers always ask me…

*How can I write music singers will love?
*What’s a safe range for a singer where I can write whatever I want?
*My mezzo friend told me she has a high B-flat but then I wrote one and she said she can’t sing that word on it. What’s going on? Image
*Why can’t I understand the words in my own piece?

*Why do I need to worry about text setting when I’m writing experimental music using noises and vowel sounds?

Here’s the thing…
Here’s the thing:

Unlike instruments, singers perform TEXT—combinations of vowels and consonants that require different movements of the lips, teeth, tongue, jaw…the SPACE in our mouths.

That means there are SO MANY DIFFERENT WAYS to sing EVERY SINGLE PITCH in a singer’s range

1/ During July 2020 many worked quickly to scramble #COVID19 prep before the Fall classes. I helped model estimated COVID #aerosol risk as @UofDenver made plans. Not allowed then, but shared now in case it can prompt discussion for Winter prep.

Doc + 🧵:
2/ A key concern at the time (& still) was #music ensemble classroom activities, b/c it was obvious early on that #COVIDisAirborne and that #choir & wind instruments were likely to present high COVID #aerosol risk.…
3/ Using my version of an aerosol #boxmodel, I calculated probability that #SARSCoV2 could infect after breathed out by someone in specific classrooms. With this I could easily investigate best prevention bang for buck. I.e. Rehearsal duration? Wait time b/n classes? Etc.

Meanwhile in #France,
"the peak of this second wave is over"

(according to the President in his Adress to the Nation):
Wait... "the peak is over" doesn´t mean "it´s back to normal"!

Confinement will only fall on December 15,
if there´s less than 5.000 new cases a day.
(today it´s ~9.000).

France is disappointed.🙁

Although they certainly can make it happen.
Meanwhile in #Switzerland:
(excess mortality of the second wave is significant)

Good news: fastest decrease in infections happens in the worst hit areas now.

As #COVID19 cases are found to spread, #Melbourne (city of ~5 million) tries to contain them by going into #Lockdown.
(The interview features the idea of a dedicated #Quarantine building - that would actually help, I guess)...
"People acting as if the pandemic was over was 'not the answer, it is part of the problem' ".

"The virus had leaked from postcodes already under the stay-at-home orders to other parts of #Melbourne."
(and beyond, it is feared).
Due to #Melbourne's outbreak, neighbouring South Australia is about to completely close it's borders to #Victoria.

(Nearly) no exceptions. And those essential few who are allowed in, will have to wear facemasks the entire time...

Vorpommern-Greifswald district (where rejections of #Gütersloh residents took place, yesterday)
has specific rules:
"Those who return from international risk areas (out of Germany) or whose Corona-Warning App has alerted them, need to report to authorites" Image
In fact, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern's Corona-ordinance really prohibits entry of people from international risk areas AND german risk areas as well.
It's just not prominently featured on their websites.

(Overlooked that myself, hence deleted earlier tweet)… Image
People from #Gütersloh district may have to scrap all their holiday plans anyway...

An official #Lockdown is just being announced for the entire district.
(for one week, as of now)
