#energytwitter @exeterepg @EnergySysCat @EnergyLeeds @EnergyREV_UK @NatureEnergyJnl continuing our energy #ideology theme for the week, we know ideology is a fundamental determinant of whether and if we legislate for an #energytransition sciencedirect.com/science/articl…
So overt questions of regulating energy in capitalism are legit terrain for a partisan empirics of energy research. But are we aware how much we enjoy our own more private ideologies? Reactions to @UKLabour energy policy are fascinating.
Responses to a #GreenNewDeal scale home retrofit programme "I already paid to insulate my home [individual responsibility trope] why should I pay for my neighbour's loft insulation [feckless socialist/free stuff trope] even before the finance mechanism is announced.

In the first of a ten-part data journalism series on city life in India, @sh_devulapalli analyzes congestion in 300 major arterial roads spread across six largest urban agglomerations of the country #PlainFacts

At the @cityofsydney we want you, the people who live, work & visit Sydney, to help us shape the city’s future: that’s what #SustainableSydney2050 is about. I’m at Town Hall with about 500 people to further the plan today, part of 18months of consultation on our city, our future.
As Lord Mayor @CloverMoore just said, we don’t want to just react. We want to lead. We want our community to be prepared & resilient to face a changing world.

Our cities can be engines for Inclusion & sustainability, but business-as-usual won’t get us there. #ourcityourfuture
But we *do* need to recognise our enormous privilege & out-sized impact. Megan Flynn from @Earthwatch_Aus tells us, in most of the world, July 29 is the day we “use up” our sustainable allocation of natural resources.

In Australia, that date is March 31. #ourcityourfuture

”How cities erode gender inequalities: a new theory & evidence from Cambodia”!

This is the most important paper I’ve ever written, the culmination of a decade’s work on social norms, & it’s just been accepted by Gender & Society!!

docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/2e7ace_0cd…
This is the 3rd (maybe 4th?) paper I’ve submitted to Gender & Society!!

All rejected!! 😫

But I kept on trying... 🙇‍♀️

Persevering!! 🐘

And I was especially keen for this paper to be accepted there, hopefully encouraging more studies in this field! 😊🙌🏞🏙
Here's the thing..

Studies of social change typically look at individual- or country-level characteristics

This omits the #places we live in.

In subnational comparisons, we see faster social change in cities.

Why?

And what does it tell us about the drivers of social change?

For clarity. When i say #showertime. I mean when the government puts drugs in your shower head, and you're dosed every time you take a shower. You'll be easily manipulatable, and appear crazy to the regular John.
You might also be impartial to taking showers, exhibiting all the symptoms of "mental illness". (and or smelling and looking like shit). So Obamas church crew, being led by "#mentalhealth professionals, local law enforcement officials" can come and get you. Under #ExecutiveOrder
But can you prove it to a Judge like Jeffrey Steven White??

Ask @SharylAttkisson

Yesterday, #SpacesAndPlaces, an accredited #NPC19 offsite session held at @impacthub_oak, a group of largely black planners, urbanists & activists discussed ways they are practicing planning in ways that go deeper than engaging with black & PoC communities. They start from there.
The session featured folks like @oakclt People Power Solar Cooperative, @EOakCollective @bankCBB & more who are doing planning, housing, cultural, environmental and even banking work that is rooted in, values, uplifts, builds from the perspective of the historically marginalized.
It might not seem like a big difference, but it really is. #NPC19

Tired: “Let’s build cities, communities, neighborhoods that work for all.”

Wired: “Cities, communities, neighborhoods are working better for some versus others based on race, gender etc. Let’s change that.”

Like many of you, I'm deeply inspired by the #MarchForOurLives speakers. These students modelled a couple of key changemaking principles, relevant to #cities and #urbanism, worthy of serious contemplation.

@davidhogg111, a white male Parkland student noted that media didn't give his fellow #Black students equal space in the convo, Naomi Wadler, a brilliant Black girl addressed ways racialized victims are not equally valued + most of the students acknowledged their #privilege.

This degree of self interrogation, meaningful inclusion, and courage to challenge movements from within is how we achieve true #inclusion and #justice for all.
