1/ I would like CT to remember what happens when we don’t consider those who will be affected by well meaning reform. When we overthrew the death penalty individuals were sentenced to life in prison - in SOLITARY-like conditions, which is arguably more cruel than death.
2/ When we consider the social death and ever-changing, perpetual punishment that is public registration, we must consider those who will have no path off to prevent a similar situation.
Incremental reform must also be smart reform, we must not build further infrastructure into broken systems. /end #cjreformCT, #endtheregistry #valuallhumans

1/Just read that CT makes $7 mil per yr from phone calls to those incarcerated. Securus Technologies makes $3 mil. This is $10 mil per yr! With a prison population of around 13,000, that is almost $54,000 per yr, per incarcerated person, paid by their family. This is exploitation
2/ Several legislative proposals are looking to reduce or eliminate the cost of the calls, to relieve the burden on the families. This is not only morally right, it also makes sense for public safety. Family connections lead to lower recidivism.
End/ No family should have to choose between groceries and staying connected to their loved one to fund the carceral machine. I am encouraged that advocates, legislators and the governor want to change this during this session. Let’s work together to get it done.#cjreformCT
