In JAMA Oncology today, the "debate" continues.

Bird 'flu

Public awareness of the risks posed by bird 'flu is seriously lacking it is not sensible to travel whilst infected.

"Pandemic fatigue" had significantly impacted people's attitudes to Covid, and likely to any new pandemic 'flu.

1/ dailyrecord.co.uk/news/scottish-…
"Learning to live with Covid" by undermining mask use and downplaying Covid's severity will have serious consequences.

If bird flu were to develop human-to-human transmission, it could have devastating consequences due to its high mortality rate.

2/
50% mortality for H5N1 is huge.

Who dies in flu pandemics?

In 1918, mortality was highest in;
👶 u5 yrs
🤵 20-40 yrs
👵 65 yrs+

Obviously, the Clinically Vulnerable (those offered annual 'flu vaccines) have higher risks, too.

Something @WHO fail to acknowledge is the mental torture the CØVid aware have faced for years now.

Following the science,watching briefings/Q&As with @mvankerkhove @DrMikeRyan
Reading studies, tracking VOCs.
Caring.
Has led us to be vilified, ostracised & abused.
Martyrs💔
None of what @WHO comes out with makes it into the mainstream(Unless the word "Over" is involved)
Therefore it's null & void.

The more we know. The worse the ignorant will treat us. The further underground the vulnerable will be pushed.
Quite literally in far too many cases 💔
My message to @WHO is;
(Not that they care- this is cathartic)

You have the floor. Use it wisely.

Don't push SARS-CoV2 into the past,while adults & children die or become debilitated daily
#LongCovid

In the eyes of the grieving & vulnerable we are still in an emergency.

My piece covering the Clean Air Forum is finally out in The Saturday Paper!

I explore how clean indoor air has been an issue long before the pandemic, which "cost Australia more than $12 billion a year due to ill health and lost productivity."

#auspol
thesaturdaypaper.com.au/life/environme…
CMO Paul Kelly set the forum a challenge, and it was taken up by "experts in fields ranging from medicine to architecture, engineering and occupational health and safety [who] gathered with politicians at Parliament House."

#auspol #COVIDIsAirborne
As CHO Brett Sutton announced at the start of the forum, it's clear that we need a #CleanAirRevolution!

And Australia could play a leading role.

It’s now beyond question:
Federal & state govt public health policies are *designed* to infect & re-infect Australians with SARS-CoV-2 *despite* overwhelming evidence that this will kill and disable many, and *without* any prospect of achieving meaningful hybrid immunity.
🧵. . .
This abandonment of basic public health can no longer be hidden. It is in plain sight, and politicians who continue to push this approach will ultimately be held to account for the deaths and disability they have caused and continue to cause.
@Mon4Kooyong
Politicians know what they are doing is wrong. There is no longer any plausible deniability. Nevertheless they continue to pursue personal and political ambition and satisfy their egos *at any cost*.

Is it worth investing in ventilation and filtration if you have a population that will not accept mask mandates or will not voluntarily uptake masks?

YES.
No, you won’t be able to stop close range transmission with vent/filtration alone.

You will however be increasing the margin of safety of those that do wear a respirator. That will likely be those that perceive themselves to be at risk.
There may also be a benefit of reducing long range transmission, slowing outbreaks.
