Over 200,000 People From Across the Country Urge the EPA to Finalize a Strong Federal Clean Cars Rule
#CleanerCars

sierraclub.org/press-releases…
"It is critical for the @EPA to listen to the hundreds of thousands of people urging the agency to deliver a strong clean cars rule for our health and our climate,"
-- Sierra Club President @RamonCruzDiaz
"For years, Donald Trump attacked our nation’s strongest climate policy - it’s time to get it back and go further than ever before. Cars and light-duty trucks are also a major source of air pollution that predominantly harms low-income communities and communities of color."

While the country has been busy dealing with the coronavirus pandemic, the Trump administration has moved full speed ahead on rolling back public health protections. Here's a thread 🧵of recent attacks on science by the administration during #COVID19.
The administration moved forward with removing protections from the #CleanWaterAct. The change will remove protections from half of the nation’s wetlands and nearly 20% of streams. act.ucsusa.org/2W0jIPa
In the middle of the #coronavirus pandemic, the EPA has moved to restrict the types of research that can be used in policymaking. The proposal would rule out important scientific papers from being considered. act.ucsusa.org/3a3Lnon

Trump is brazenly lying about the impact of slashing tailpipe emissions standards. Thread.
Trump’s attack on California wouldn’t just be detrimental to the state. Air pollution doesn’t stop at state lines, and any attempt to slash tailpipe emissions standards puts the entire country’s health in jeopardy.
Trump’s plan to uproot #CleanerCars would also cost consumers an additional $3,300 per vehicle, according to @CRadvocacy: advocacy.consumerreports.org/press_release/…

Not only must we fight back against President Trump and the fossil fuel lobbyists running the EPA, we must also pursue a bold clean energy agenda in Massachusetts and across the country. #EarthDay
The fight for the future of the Earth rests on our country transitioning away from dirty fossil fuels. We are still in court defending the #CleanPowerPlan and our booming clean energy economy. #EarthDay
The move to electric vehicles in Massachusetts was supercharged by our record-setting multi-million-dollar settlement with VW over the company's massive emissions fraud. #EarthDay

Today I joined 20 AGs in demanding the Trump admin stop its effort to weaken clean car standards.

Rolling back these standards would result in higher costs for drivers, more air pollution, and flooding and damage to our local ecosystem: reut.rs/2yDCml1 #CleanerCars
#DC residents deserve the health benefits and cost savings of the current #CleanerCars rule.

The current rule is expected to prevent up to 2,000 premature deaths nationwide and save the average consumer $1,620 over the lifetime of their vehicle.
#DC has also set an ambitious goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 50% below 2006 levels by 2032 and 80% by 2050.

Removing these clean car standards will threaten the District’s ability to meet these goals and increase the risk of #ClimateChange. #CleanerCars

BREAKING: Our activists are on the Scioto River rebuking @Ford's work with Trump to roll back #CleanerCars standards. Steps away, Ford's CEO is giving a speech about the company's “innovative” vision. There's nothing innovative about increasing pollution and consumers' gas bills.
Public Citizen activist Oscar is LIVE on the Scioto River—outside Ford's speech on "innovation"—condemning the company's efforts to roll back #CleanerCars standards, the largest federal climate program in the country.

RT to spread his message and let @Ford know you're watching.
Looks like @Ford’s CEO noticed us.

Citing pressure from our activists, he just appeared to reverse the company's stance on the Trump administration’s proposed #CleanerCars rollback. Now we must hold him to it. bit.ly/FordChangesTune

By rolling back cleaner car standards, Trump is increasing our reliance on foreign oil—and as gas prices rise, so will the risks to our national security.

As a battle looms ahead, let’s take a look back at where we’ve been & why #CleanCarStandards are so important.

Once upon a time, CA’s fight for #cleanercars emerged from a thick layer of yellowish gray #smog with a metallic taste & eye-stinging character...
When Governor Ronald Reagan signed the law creating CARB in 1968, California had been fighting the #smog monster for over 20 years with regulations to clean up tailpipe pollution
Governor Reagan fought hard to protect CA’s authority to set its own #cleanercarstandards under the newly passed #CleanAirAct, signed by President Nixon a few years after LA’s #smog made the cover of Time Magazine

In response to the Trump administration's unconscionable #CleanerCars rollback, we’re outside EPA with a powerful visual representing the 25 million Americans who suffer from asthma. Trump shouldn’t be rolling back safeguards that protect them. Watch LIVE: facebook.com/publiccitizen/…
Trump’s dirty rollback of the #CleanerCars standards is brought to you by @Ford. That’s why we’re at Ford HQ — to condemn the company for conspiring to undo the largest federal climate program in the country. RT to tell Ford you’ll find another ride.
.@NHTSAgov is calling the #CleanerCars rollback the “S.A.F.E. Vehicles Rule.” There’s nothing safe about ramping up tailpipe pollution and exacerbating the climate crisis, so we’re outside their office demanding they scrap the new rule and put American families first.

I will go to court again to stop the Trump administration from moving ahead with their environmentally-destructive plan.

Weaker emissions standards mean higher costs for drivers, more air pollution, flooding and damage to our local ecosystem: usat.ly/2OAFR22
The @EPA's irresponsible proposal to freeze federal limits on auto tailpipe pollution will set back years of progress to reduce carbon emissions and endangers our residents’ health and safety. #CleanerCars
@EPA The District has set an ambitious goal of reducing GHG emissions by 50% below 2006 levels by 2032 and 80% by 2050.

Removing these fuel efficiency standards will severely challenge the District’s ability to meet these goals and increase the risk of climate change impacts.

BREAKING: @EPA and @NHTSAgov just issued a rule to roll back #CleanerCars standards — the largest federal climate program on the books.

The rollback will add 6B metric tons of pollution to the atmosphere and loot up to $90B from consumers at the gas pump. epa.gov/regulations-em…
The #CleanerCars rollback also revokes states’ legal authority under the Clean Air Act to set up more stringent tailpipe pollution standards — making today’s news the equivalent of an 100-car pile up. washingtonpost.com/national/healt…
Trump's #CleanerCars rollback puts his administration on a collision course with California and the supermajority of Americans who want more fuel efficient vehicles. They understand and demand the twin benefits of lower gasoline bills and reduced carbon pollution.
