Instead of a post today, I have a request for your assistance and a plug. The request for assistance is for the best, most authoritative definition of personally identifiable information (PII) - what is it, and where does it come from.
I've seen a few examples over the years but none of the ones I can currently find seem like *the* definition. Maybe there isn't one, it's just an industry term with no real basis, but I don't want to make that assertion.
Don't tell me what you think the definition is; I can do that myself. Give me a source or tell me where I might find it.

The point of me asking will become clear in an upcoming post / series of posts.

Scattered showers around W WA. A cell in S #Snohomish county could have small hail & brief heavy rain as it moves to the NE. No #lightning strikes have been detected, but cannot rule 1 or 2 out for this storm. When thunder roars, go indoors! #wawx
UPDATE-previous cell has weakened & moved into Cascades. Another cell has popped up behind it, N of #Bothell, around #Clearview & #Maltby in #Snohomish county. Small hail, heavy rain & #lightning strike or 2 might be possible. We'll keep an 👁️ on it. #wawx
Some radar estimated rainfall amounts of those storms that have been training over S #Snohomish county over the past hour are in the 1/2 to 1 inch range. That's a lot of water. Be wary of ponding on roadways. #wawx

(Thread) A couple of weeks ago, the #clearviewai reporting by @kashhill shook the world. Now we show how easy it is to download bulk-scale data from Instagram – and how advanced open source #facerec technology already is
@kashhill We downloaded 200k Instagram pictures within a couple of days, from one computer, without an account. We then searched these pictures for candidates for the Swiss federal elections and found a couple of interesting "matches".
@kashhill We used the open source Dlib library for facial recognition (github.com/ageitgey/face_…). It was able to recognizes faces that are partially hidden, in the dark, etc. I would argue the AI behind it is not very different from the one that big players like Amazon use.

"All have obtained “top applicable national security clearance and have clear privacy guidelines to ensure individual privacy, civil rights, civil liberties and other interests are protected,” police said.

A few thoughts on the leaked EU Commission's White Paper on a European Approach towards #AI
(thanks to @F_Kaltheuner for pointing it my way)

THREAD 👇
The white paper references the Commission's ongoing activities on #AI. But the main thrust is the analysis of different regulatory options to make good on @vonderleyen pledge to present legislation on #AI within the first 100 days in office.
The big story in the media such as this @POLITICOEurope piece (where you can find a link to the leaked draft) has been the consideration of a temporary ban of facial recognition in public spaces. politico.eu/article/eu-con…
