THREAD: As #GameOfThrones is doing a less than stellar job of executing their endgame, I just want to revisit all my favourite #ASOIAF metas which, unlike the show, manage to successfully examine the complex stories GRRM is trying to tell with his characters. #GOT
UNTANGLING THE MEEREENESE KNOT by Adam Feldman who, according to GRRM, “gets it” - This essay takes you through #Daenerys’ entire journey — from the politics of Meereen to “Dragons plant no trees” — towards her fully embracing “fire and blood”: meereeneseblot.wordpress.com/2013/09/27/unt…
DAUGHTER OF DEATH by @arhythmetric - #Daenerys as a tragic Shakespearean hero. This essay is pretty dense, but draws AMAZING parallels between #Dany and the likes of Macbeth, Hamlet, Lear and Othello: themanyfacedblog.wordpress.com/2019/04/19/dau…

salon.com/2019/04/10/gam… Game of Thrones prediction time! I think not only will we have a #CleganeBowl this season, but that it’s quite possibly how the series ends.
The Mountain vs. The Hound has never just been about sibling rivalry. It’s about nihilism (Mountain) vs. hope and the possibility of redemption (Hound). Therefore a fight between them is a fitting cap to a story that is largely about these themes.
The long-standing assumption has been that #CleganeBowl will be a trial by combat. But I am beginning to think it will instead illustrate the ancient/medieval tradition of single combat to settle a battle, which has been hinted at twice before in the series.

So after an age of netflindecision we decided to just re-watch #GameofThrones again from the start. It’s so weird going back all them years.

Here comes a 70-odd tweet thread commenting on every episode...
#GoT #S1e1 That cold opening though.

It’s odd that you give a pass to beheading, incest and marital rape but the thing that made me think “this show is different” was Jaime casually pushing Bran out the window. Seeing Robert grieving for Lyanna was more poignant with hindsight.
#GoT #s1e2 Lots of ominous shots of dragon eggs. Robb acting brash, Cat loving her kids, Joffrey being a dick #foreshadowing

Tyrion steals the wall scenes.
I realise now why they all love direwolves - mostly for Joffrey biting.
