Wow. Das ist mein 10.000. Tweet. 💯x💯

NEXT UP: # 4 SEED FISHER VERSUS # 5 SEED TIGER OWL #2019MMM photo credits: Tom Kogut
Tiger owls are generally "free from natural enemies" predators such as coyotes, bobcats, mountain lions & are known to attack humans who get too close to their nests (Baumgartner 1939) #TheyWillCutYou #2019MMM
Males & females tiger owls mature by year 3 & females are larger. They produce 1-6 eggs/season & alternate roosting & hunting during the nesting season. Males do most of the hunting while females spend their time protecting the brood. (Baumgarter 1939) #2019MMM

NEXT UP: # 4 SEED FISHER (Pekania pennanti) VERSUS # 13 SEED TIGER SALAMANDER (Ambystoma tigrinum) (photo: Paul Bannick @ConservationNW) #2019MMM Fisher (Pekania pennanti) photo: Paul BannickTiger salamander (Ambystoma tigrinum)
Both of our combatants are widespread throughout North America with overlapping ranges. Fishers inhabit forests with large trees, snags & logs for resting & denning, while tiger salamanders occur in forests, grasslands & marshy areas with soil suitable for burrowing #2019MMM
The fisher is not a cat & is not known to fish. #MammalOfTwoLies Fisher comes from the Dutch words fisse/visse & French words fiche/fichet, aka the European polecat. When hunting, small mammals are their primary prey but they will also omnomnom on birds (Powell 1981). #2019MMM

#SquattingIsABalanceSkill2018: The Twitter Remix

Warning: this will be a long thread.

To be effective in your coaching you need to know why errors happen.

In squatting, most errors are due to the fact that athletes are afraid they are going to fall over.
When we squat, we need to keep the projection of our centre of mass (the arrow in the picture), within our base of support (the pink area in the picture). If the arrow moves outside of our base of support we will fall over.
A common cue is "push the hips back to start the squat". As the athlete pushes their hips back, the projection of the centre of mass (PCOM) moves backwards. When the PCOM reaches the edge of the base of support (BOS), the athlete can't squat any deeper using this strategy.

UP FIRST TONIGHT: everyone's favorite river horse, the 1-seeded PYGMY HIPPO Hexaprotodon (formally Choeropsis) liberiensis, vs. the scrappy 4-seeded brush wolf, COYOTE Canis latrans! #2018MMM
