@willis_andrew missed opportunity. The #oilsands & coal-fired power get the headlines, & dominate the top-15 emitting facilities (2018 data open.canada.ca/data/en/datase…) in Canada. But the 3 facilities from Ontario that crack the top-15 are steel producers, including Stelco. 2/

I see lots of people dunking on prospects for SMR nuclear citing high cost & uncertainty about scalability. These are the same arguments that were used against wind, solar & lithium ion batteries (still are in some quarters). SMRs have challenges, no doubt. But we need every 1/
#climatesolution we can find. Deployment of existing, cost competitive solutions should take priority. But no harm in ongoing zero emission innovation. Odds are high we’ll need it.
That said—things to be on the alert for: 1) a focus on silver bullets like SMR in lieu of... 2/2/
…deploying solutions we have now. 2) the idea that exporting SMRs to other countries will mean we can do less to cut pollution domestically in Canada (Article 6 of Paris Agreement, ITMOs etc.). 3/3
